health care

Facebook updates on the topic this week are making me stabby."I don't want my money payin' for po' folks to get coverage!  I'll pay more for myself even if that means the poors don't get it and capitalism wins in my mind."Um, hello, welcome to 50 years of Medicaid.  And that is nice your political status is conservative Christian.  Jesus would've hated UHC.

Re: health care

  • I read this one a little while ago:"this stinks.  The one night I actually have time to relax and watch TV, I have to listen to President O ramble on and on about his horrible healthcare reform plan"
  • My favorite:Ultimately it comes down, for me, to sustainability - if a plan can't be sustained in a crisis without undue cost AND its removal will not be supported by the democratic majority should such a time of crisis emerge, well, I don't support it. Do I think reforms should be put into place? Yup. Do I think socialized healthcare is a good idea? Not in a world in which Hobbes and Malthus still matter.Dude.  I KNOW you're a professor now..at Podunk U but ok.  I KNOW you've studied philosophy.  Hobbes and Malthus never MATTERED.

  • I have posted several giant blobs of text about health care on my own profile, but no one will debate it with me.  I am living vicariously through Twan who is meekly arguing with some dude he went to HS with.

  • I keep posting gay marriage articles but no one will engage me either.

  • Maybe he means Calvin and Hobbes (weren't they named after that guy and John Calvin anyway?).I agree with most of the plan, but I think eligibility for Medicare needs to be pushed back more.  I think we could save a lot of money there, but Obama will not risk enraging the white hairs.

  • I think the problem is in posting articles.  I posted something from the WSJ and also quoted Mitch McConnell from an interview.  I think my friends consist of mostly people who agree with me or those who have no idea who MM is and think the Wall Street Journal is a pamphlet of stock quotes.  I can count the intelligent conservatives I know on one hand.  I think this probably says more about me living in Missouri and not being rich than it does about conservatives.

  • Fenton, did you see they resurrected the politics board (#465).  It's fairly slow but seems to lean conservative, so you might have some fun.

  • Surprisingly, the only eye-roll worthy status update I saw today was "racing home to catch O'Reilly." But I guess that's because a lot of my friends are still using their status to show support to the family of a cop who was killed.

  • I'm glad I didn't check fb last night.  Comments like these would have kept me awake all night thinking of what I would say to these people in person.

  • I was watching tv last night, and saw an anti-UHC commercial, featuring a Canadian woman being all "I had a deadly disease, a  tumor growing, and I was going to die in two seconds if I didn't get help, but the Canadian system was going to make me wait eighty six years to see a specialist, WHILE THE TUMOT WAS STILL GROWING!" I had to come to the states to get proper care, DON'T BE LIKE US IN CANADA"And I was like "whaaa?" most people in Canada love our system and would never give it up. It has it's own issues that we are trying to sort out, but I still certainly prefer it over private.
  • I saw it too, Jens.
