Poll: DIY

I have taken on quite a few DIY projects and am feeling overwhelmed with my wedding in 46 days (AHH!).  So I thought it might help to hear what others are working on and how your projects are coming!  What are your DIY projects and what's your plan?  How is everything coming?

    1. Chair covers- as my siggy shows, I have 47 of 150ish done.  This was a huge undertaking, but I'm very happy with them and have really gotten a groove going!  2.  Paper projects- Eek, haven't started any of these, really lost on this one :).  I'm doing programs, favor tags, menus, table numbers, etc.3.  Favors-Olive oil bottles, we have all the pieces, just need to make the oil and bottle!4. Cupcake stands/wrappers- still gathering plates and working on the wrappers5. Ice cream cookie sandwiches - going to delegate to some family to help bake the cookies, but will need to assemble. There are a few others but these are the ones that are stressing me out!

I happen to really enjoy paper crafting and I have about 10 years experience in using Photoshop, and 4-5 years in InDesign and Quark. (80% self-taught, 20% high school/college I'd say!) So I'm hoping to be able to do most of the paper projects DIY. But we might just cut some of them entirely or go with a really budget retailer because I don't entirely care what the invitations, save the dates, programs, escort cards, etc. look like as long as the information is correct and they serve their functions. And I'm sure we'll end up just putting together little candy bags for favors. I can't stand favors that are little "things," like, why would I want a 4x6 photo frame with your wedding details engraved in it lol.

We actually DIYed margarita glasses for the bridal shower--we painted them and they turned out great!  But, I have bought materials to make a card box and might do a flip flop basket--jury is still out on that one.  After the margarita glasses I am feeling more confident about diy.  Oh and we made wine for favors and need to go bottle it in a couple of weeks--does that count???

jefisher05: You said you painted the marg glasses... did you coat them in something so the paint wouldn't come off when cleaning? I'm thinking about hand painting wine glasses as favors, but am not sure how to go about it!tx.b

Betsy, Yes, first you prime the glasses and you must paint them within I think 4 hours.  You paint them, then glaze which is just something you paint on but it has to "cure" for 10 days so make sure you leave plenty of time.  I've been meaning to put up pictures of those...we painted them like palm trees!

-Programs- slowly but surely, I totally came up with a way complicated design...-Favor boxes- they each have a quote about love from a movie on top that I had to print and cut out and a sting of beads that spells out "LOVE" attached to the ribbon. Fudge made by my mother will be inside.-done (except the fudge)-Movie quotes about love that are cut up like confetti to be sprinkled on the tables around the centerpieces.-done-Table cards- Each is a different romantic movie so the film poster will be on the card.-Miniture eisles painted to match our colors for the Table Cards- done-My veil- done-Photo display for reception- only have the photos printed, will have to do the rest the day before-Centerpieces- my mom is doing them so I can't claim credit for those, but they're DIY!I think that's it... I'm a bit of a "I would rather do it myself" type of person. :)

My Planned Productions:1. Wedding favors - I bought antiqued paper tagsbay off of ebay, Ive chosen my font and i'm printing everyone's name and table number on them. I'm using clear labels from my FI mom's office ;) The tags will go on white boxes that have yet to be purchased. (depends on if my gown is white or ivory)2. Ceremony Programs - will be printed and made with paper to match my tags (from above) I plan to make them fans for our outdoor ceremony. I'll probably use wooden paint sticks (good friend got them for free from Lowes)3. Centerpieces - using the hall's vases ($3 a pc), my cousin's mirrors (free) and still figuring out flowers and such. Either way, i'm making them!4. "I DO" letters for the cake table - I will probably get these from Michaels...still brainstorming this one. I might have inspiring words: 'love', 'fate' ect..Not Sure Yet if I can do it:1. Wedding album through www.mixbook.com2. Bridal party flowers and my own bouquet3. Aisle runner with monogram (I have no clue how to do this)
