DJ or band?

I am starting to look at entertainment for the reception. Does anyone have any good referrals for either a DJ or a band? Or, what do you think is better? I know a DJ will be less expensive...

I haven't gotten married yet or gone to a wedding where this DJ was used so I can't review them personally, but I'm using Music Connection. I've heard really great things about them on this board, and my experience just talking with Jesse (the owner) makes me really excited to be using them for my wedding. Their price was really reasonable too ($650 for 5.5 hours including lights, and music set-up outside for my ceremony where they have to bring out a battery operated system). As far as DJ vs band.... I think a band would be a lot of fun and your guests would enjoy it, but you have to realize a lot of the drawbacks to using one. They won't play continuously (need breaks), they can't play every song you might want, I would imagine the general sound would be the same the whole night (as opposed to a DJ where you could go from jazz one second to hip hop the next and the instruments would be all different), and they're a heck of a lot more expensive. Of course you're getting live entertainment, which like I said before would be a whole lot of fun. I guess you just need to think about what you actually want (you want a specific song sung by a specific person) and what fits in your budget. Good luck!

I went the DJ route because I wanted to have so many types of music played at my wedding. Plus I hate the idea of lulls in the music because the band is taking a break. I am using Holtz Ent. for my wedding. He has been absolutely wonderful thus far. His equipment is new, and he is extremely professional!

I am using Music Connection as well.  No problems with them so far and they come highly recommended on this board.

I actually ended up booking a band rather than a DJ. I have never really liked wedding DJs because they tend to pick only the music that they like/usually use for weddings. A DJ does have a much wider selection of music though. We ended up booking an Austin band...T Bird and the Breaks. We will have a bit less selection, but I am hoping the energy of a live band will make up for it.Here is the band:http://www.myspace.com/tbirdandthebreaks~Julie
