Colors for Wedding

My wedding is scheduled for May - but I'm really drawn towards using brown as my main color in my wedding. Since my wedding is in Spring. Several people have given their opinions that I can't have brown for my dresses because it's not a "spring" color and that if I want to use brown that my wedding should be in the fall. My thoughts are by using brown and I can pretty much use any flowers I want and use them to bring in spring colors to the wedding. Did anyone else pay a lot of attention to the time of year you were getting married or did you just pick out the colors you really liked?

Use the colors you want. IMO brown is a great, classy color. It looks very fresh when paired with ivory. It also looks good with pinks, blues, oranges, and greens, which are all bright spring colors. I had a B&W wedding in July. It doesn't matter. I agree with Sarah--use whatever color you want.   We've been planning for a year now and I swear, having a wedding must be like having a kid--EVERYONE has an opinion on what you should/shouldn't do!! Even if they're not married!!Anyways, we were going back and forth between a spring and fall wedding--I love eggplant/plum, so that was in for sure.  If we did it in the Spring, I was looking at Plum and a post-it yellow--which FI and my family abhorred.  Luckily we went with the fall wedding, and we're doing copper and plum...So, long story short, brown will be wonderful, and do what makes YOU happy!!GL!

Um, are they the color police? You can use whatever color you want, whatever time a year you want. Everybody and their mother will want to tell you all about what you should and shouldn't be doing while you're planning your wedding. It's up to you what you do in the end.I agree with Sarah that brown would look great coupled with some of the pastels she mentioned, for sort of a springy pop. But even if you don't want that, that's ok.

SM23 - That was too funny! I really need a laugh and that did it :) I'm thinking about putting fushia in my wedding and like how it looks with the brown, FI isn't crazy about wearing that as his tie color. So I will keep working on the color combination. You guys are great....thanks again for the suggestions and help.

Because I got married on August 31, I had a hard time figuring out if we were Fall yet, or Summer, or what the heck colors "went with" our season. Our guys all wore brown suits. We got so many comments (from my ILs) about EVERYTHING, only beginning with colors, etc. My advice is to go with what makes you happiest. I looooooved how the brown contributed to our wedding "feel"...it's comfortable and classic. Good luck!! I was married in May and brown played a huge part in my colors. If you look at nature, brown is everywhere in the spring. Look at any stone fruit tree: brown branches and the pop of color from the buds. Remember, it's YOUR wedding. You can pick whatever colors you want!

I been to two weddings this May where the colors were brown and pink and brown and teal/white flowers and I didn't see anyone offended. Do what YOU want and I am picking brown too because I know my girls can wear the dress I pick again (jcrew) yeah it's not like spring means "pastel" thats so dated.

If your FI doesn't like pink or brown for his tie, he can always wear an ivory tie or some other basic color. That's what my FI is doing because he didn't want a burgundy tie. It's ok for the groom to have a different tie than the rest of them (I think).

Ditto PP. I am having a black and fuschia wedding. FI will be wearing a white vest and tie while the groomsmen will be wearing fuschia. I don't think brown would be weird at all for May. Brown to me is a very "nature" color which to me is completely spring. Go for it!
