Color?'s.... TARA / knotties Help Please!

So, I had a very black~tie formal black & white theme originally planned for my wedding.  My BM's decided on a wine colored dress, vs the black I had originally planned on having them dress in.  I love their dresses, and the color is beautiful - but I was thinking instead of having black, white & Gold with wine mixed in, changing it to more of a deep chocolate / mocha color with wine, gold and ivory tones.  I'm concerned that the wine / brown would clash and make things too dark, vs the main colors being white & black as originally planned.  What do you think would be best?  Also.... I'm wearing a white dress.  Would it be wierd if everything was highlighted in cream / ivory if I'm in a white dress?   The browns / wine and ivory seem to be what would look best from as far as I'm aware at my venue. I wouldn't know how else to incorporate the wine color into things besides linens as well...... and don't want everything to look off balanced.  Tara - what do you suggest as you've recently had your wedding @ the same venue I've picked?  I'd be just as happy either way, but want to get this settled before my consult.  Thanks ladies!

I think the wine and chocolate would look very rich!  I personally would prefer chocolate over black with the wine color.  I don't think your dress will look out of place either.  I mean most dresses are white and you don't have to match your reception. :)  I have a B&W and green theme, yet I am wearing an ivory dress.  Also, I think you will find plenty of details that go with your colors.  I would love to help you if you need ideas!  That's the best part of this process!!  Google will become your best friend!  HTH!

I think deep chocolate and wine would be very elegant looking. The courthouse has such rich colors I really think the wine would pop in there and look amazing. With a blank canvas like the courthouse, you can do more dramatic colors and create your own mood. Oh, and don't worry about your white dress. If anything, it being the only thing white will make you stand out more :)

I am using similar colors for my wedding.  I have dark purple colored dresses (I think the name of the color was eggplant).  The accent color that I'm going with is gold.  Our invitations were dark purple pockets with alternating ivory and gold paper in them.  I'm also using dark purple linens.  The flowers are going to be fall colors (oranges and reds), which I think will look great on the dark purple linens!  I'm also using gold chargers.  For place cards I'm using wine corks (which also could tie in the wine color for you).  I have 4-6 dark purple vases I got super cheap at pat catans that I'm going to use on the card table and other random tables with candles in them.  Your welcome to buy them from me after mine is over (47 days!!).  My florist also suggested using wine bottles as vases and just putting a single flower in each one (which is cheaper since you don't need a ton of flowers) for the non-dinner tables.  My bio has pics of some things, but I'm not fantastic about updating.  I think gold would look great as an accent color in the courthouse!  And L'Nique has great purple linens if you're interested.  If you have specific questions or want to buy anything after I'm through with it, email me at caw30@case.edu.

I think chocolate and wine would look great. My experience with the Courthouse, though, is that you don't want to go too overboard with anything. If offers so much itself that i was afraid to taint that by doing anything too intricate. That's why I stuck to the neutral colors and basic table linens. When you go to TOE for your consult, tell them the ideas they have. They have a ton of pictures saved from past events at the Courthouse and they be able to show you some that have similar colors. OR they might have recommendations based on their experience. L'Nique is also helpful when picking out linens. Sometimes they urge more complicated table settings (probably bc they want to make more money) so don't be afraid to pick a similar set-up if that's what you want. I remember feeling kind of guilty when I went with my mom bc we ended up picking white tablecloths with gold napkins and gold sashes around the chair. It was basic, and inexpensive, but we thought that's what would look the best in the space and with the color scheme we were running with. I didn't want to take ANY sort of focus off the Courthouse by making the tables too much of a stand-out. Maybe you could do lighter table linens with napkins and florals that run with your colors? My personal opinion is that wine, gold, and ivory/white would look best, but I don't have any experience with chocolate, and maybe that could work just as well. And, really, what it comes to is whatever look YOU like the best. :) I'm working on finishing my married bio, and might link it up early so that you can see the Courthouse pics I have in it.

Thanks ladies - I'm glad you all think that the chocolate brown would be best!  Black & white is dramatic, but with things being held @ the old courthouse, and the colors that are in there, I think it would be stunning withthe brown and gold mix!  I totally agree Tara - I don't want to take away from the space as its amazin gin its own right. I was thinking of white linens with chocolate accents, and the wine colored flowers just to add a touch of color, so it wont make the BM dresses seem off as they're wine.  Thanks again ladies!  Cant wait to see your pics Tara - am very very intriqued!
