Cutting cake?

The baker that we originally were going to use cancelled our tasting and never responded to my requests to re-schedule, so we are back at sqaure one 54 days before the wedding.  We want a small, two-tier cutting cake (maybe 8" and 6" diameters) with buttercream frosting and no designs.  Does anyone have recommendations in the Merrimack Valley area (northeastern MA/southern NH) for bakeries?  Also, what do you think is a reasonable price to pay for this?  Thanks!

For something that simple, have you thought of trying Market Basket, Stop and Shop, Costco, or BJ's?

D'Amici's out of Wakefield and Lynn was great to work with as well as to taste.  They may be a little farther for you but call them up and ask them what their delivery fee would be.  For us, it was only $25 and we have a three-tier.  When we worked out our cake servings including the deliver fee and whatnot, it came out to only about 3.50 per person which was the cheapest I found around here.  We also looked at Cakes for Occasions in Danvers, Blue Ribbon Bakery in Peabody/Salem, Samarah's Cakery in Woburn, and Amanda Oakleaf out of Winthrop.  HTH!

I'm using Cakes 5th Avenue. She is out of Pelham NH.  I'm getting pretty much that same kind of cake as you (ours will be slightly bigger... bottom layer is about 10") and mine was under $200 which I thought was very reasonable! The owners name is Kristen and her website is ( clicky ). Also, her cake is delicious and her buttercream is TO DIE FOR! :)

Thanks for the suggestions!  We are going with a small ceremonial cake from Eat Cake in Newburyport and getting two sheet cakes from Market Basket to serve to guests.

Our original baker is a woman who owns a home business in Hudson, NH.  I can email you her name if that sounds familiar to you.

Try Chickadee Hill Cakes in Sandown NH. They are great and they will do whatever you need to keep the costs down! Good Luck!
