changing name/license question

I know this has been asked a million times but of course I never paid attention--we got married July 18 and today received a certificate from the church and a pink carbon copy of our marriage license.  Is that all I need to go to social security to change my name? When I applied I rem the woman saying that I'd have to go to the municipal building to pick it up, but it came in the mail from my church. I also thought it took a few weeks....is what I have ok?

No you need the actual marriage license with the raised seal.  Call the town where you got married as they all vary but for mine I had to fill out a form and mail in a check for $10.  Some let you pick it up and pay the fee there.

The pink carbon copy and whatever the church sent is useless (I didn't actually even get my pink copy).   You need to go the town and get the offical marriage certificate, with the stamp/seal from the town to change your name.

Oh, and it shouldn't take a few weeks, the town I was married in had it ready 3 working days after my wedding.  ps - pick up from the town you were married in, not the town you applied for it in (unless they are the same).  And caketime is right, there is fee, usually payable in cash or check for each copy, and each town has a different fee, so I would call before going.
