No idea where I should have the reception!

I am totally stressing out about where the reception for the wedding should be. I want somewhere that is reasonably priced and has lots of opportunities for outdoor pictures. Locally in southern NH/MA border. Any advice?

Where are you planning on having the ceremony? How many people are you looking at inviting? What are you looking at budget wise? When are you looking to have your wedding?

I would really start thinking about all of these questions and be able to answer most of them before you start looking at venues to hold your reception.

I don't have any great ideas for you myself (the other ladies on the board will, though!) but I just wanted to say don't stress!  You really do have PLENTY of time to find somewhere!

Ditto everything FireDancer just said, though; budget, approximate guest count, and ceremony location will definitely help you get much better recommendations.

We had ours at Fratello's in Manchester.  It doesn't have outdoor picture space, but it has a neat brick stairwell.
Also, check out the link in my siggy labeled NH Knotties.  It has a list of places previous Knotties have used.  GL!

    Fratello's in Manchester, NH
    Brookstone in Derry, NH
    Sky Meadow in Nashua, NH
Merrimack Valley Country Club, Methuen, MA
Indian Ridge Country Club, Andover, MA

    ....there's probably a lot more.

I think a lot of this depends upon what part of the state you are in----I know you said Southern NH, but more East or West?  The anticipated size of your reception will affect your choice too.

You may want to check out the venue we're using...they're in "mid" Southern NH (Monadnock Region), are moderately priced and have BEAUTIFUL venues for outdoor photos.  (Siggy photo was made there).

The Shattuck Golf Club, Jaffrey, NH.  (About half-way between Nashua & Keene).  Their cathedral ballroom will accommodate up to 250pp, but our reception is < 100 pp.

Castleton in Windham is on a pond with a ton of picture opportunities on the water, the "beach" area, in the garden, by the gazebo, on a bridge, there are 2 waterfalls and a lot more.  They also include uplighting around the dance floor.  They were the best price I found.

Also, there is Promises to Keep in Derry.  They are similarly priced and they have 2 rooms to choose from.  They also have 3 gardens I believe.  I am working at a wedding show there next Wednesday to help a friend out.

Londonderry Country Club is also very pretty.

Executive Court in Manchester has beautiful grounds and prices are on line.

In MA,  Black Swan Country Club is beautiful and they have 2 rooms to choose from with decks.  The grounds are beautiful.  The food is fantastic.  Its catered by Keons.  Keons is award winning and they have 2 locations.

If you're willing to go to Andover there is Andover Country Club and Indian Ridge Country Club.

There are also a few halls around that you can bring in your own catering in Methuen I think.

Meadow Creek in Dracut I think can hold around 170.  Beatiful and very modern.

I'm having the same issue. I've done alot of research and I've found that alot of the places charge facility fees, have really high food minimums, and things. Check out this list, it starts off with ceremony places, but then it goes into venues. So you'll have to go and google them to find each one and their packages, but it's been helpful.I printed it out and have been crossing off ones I don't like, priced too high or that I've requested info from.

Good ones to check out that aren't on their list:
    Harris Pelham Inn, Pelham NH
    Brookstone Park
Atkinson Country Club (it's on the high side, but you get 1 hour of open bar with the package starting at 70pp)

I got married at Castleton in Windham, NH in October.  It was the perfect day....great photo opps.  It is right on Corbett Pond.  The gazebo is overlooking the water.  They also have white brides and some waterfalls for photos, a great patio going onto the water for pics.  It really is gorgeous.  The prices were not bad.  They don't have packages but I found that I got better deals when I shopped around anyway....a bit more work than a package but I got everything exactly the way I wanted.  If you have any questions or if you want the menu with prices (although they are 2010 prices so it may have gone up slightly....it will still give you an idea), just PM me or email me at chelley599 at verizon dot net   GL

Of all the places I visited, Promises to Keep In Derry had the prettiest outdoor places to take pictures, lots of different opions. I would definitely check them out. They just aren't really close to hotel or our ceremony which was a problem.

I am getting married at Rivermill in Dover. It's a brand new space and really different from other venues. It is probably not everyone's style but we LOVE it. It's a huge room in a very old mill building with all the exposed brick walls and floor to ceiling windows and big support beams all throughout that I just can't wait to wrap twinkle lights around!

We are doing the ceremony in the little park that is right next door, it's not the most scenic park ever but it is totally convenient!

I went to a wedding reception at DiBurros in Haverhill, and it was beautiful! The bride was very pleased with them overall, and thought that they were reasonably priced. :)

    Demetrad,
How's your search coming along? I decided to choose Executive Court in Manchester. It has a million places for outdoor pictures which was one of our must haves. They are very affordable and the outside is stunning. Has a hotel next door which is a nice perk too! :)
