Marriage license - certified copy?

This is probably a stupid question, but hopefully you ladies can help me. I already have my marriage license/certificate back and have completed the name change process with SS, DMV, bank, etc. However, I need to get a new passport and they require the original or a certified copy of your marriage license. I am really hesitant to send the original for fear I would not get it back, but I am not sure where or how to get a "certified" copy. Any thoughts?TIA!

I just called the Clerk and Recorder up in Fort Collins with a similar question. They said that certified copies are issued from the county and up here we can get one the same day we turn in the signed original. So, I think you should be able to get a certified copy from your local C&R. Up here it costs $1.75 or something like that after the first certified copy or to order them at a later date, so it might cost a little but better than losing the original!

Don't send the original!  If you go to the same place you got your license they can pull and certify a copy for you.
