Can a veil be altered?

I bought a veil from the bridal shop.  When I bought it the one they had at the store was a two layer veil and I only wanted 1 layer.  When it came it the veil was still fuller than I wanted.  Would the person who is doing my dress alterations possibly be able to remove some of the fabric to not make it as full?  Thanks  : )

Re: Can a veil be altered?

  • It depends on how the veil was put together. I was going to have my veil altered into a drop veil but there ended up being a hole in it where they gathered it. Take it to your seamstress when you have you fittings and see what they can do. If anything your seamstress should be able to make you a veil (most can) for much cheaper than you would pay for in a salon.

  • Yes!  Veils can be altered.  I've seen layers taken off, layers hemmed or taken up (the edging was removed, tulle cut shorter and the edging sewn back on), etc and the veils look like they were made that way.  The trick is to find a good bridal seamstress who can do those alterations for you, but it can absolutely be done.  :)
