Dinner with the Parents

So, my parents will be in town this weekend, partly as a mini-vacation and partly to meet my fiance's parents for the first time. We live in South Austin as does his dad (Westlake area), and we need good restaurant recommendations. We want something with a variety of food options that doesn't get too loud, so we can actually carry on a conversation. I feel like we need a change and need to try something new. Any recommendations you have for restaurants in South Central Austin would be a huge help!

my suggestion would be maudie's on 360. the deck is usually nice, even in the heat and you can hear pretty well!

Abuelo's near Barton Creek Mall is good tex-mex near Westlake... Hyde Park Bar & Grill would be good too. There's one on Westgate & Hwy 71 near Central Market.

This is a bit South west, but it's good, inexpensive, and a good variety of food. Satellite Bistro in Circle C then to Austin Scoops at the other end of the parking lot for ice cream. http://satellitebistro.com/A newish place is on S. Lamar called Olivia. It's def more of a nice place but the food (and wine list) is to die for: http://satellitebistro.com/And for S. Central I always rec Paggi House off S. lama at Lee Barton. http://www.paggihouse.com/

we did our dinner with the parents at chez zee. they have two areas where you can sit behind a curtain for privacy...you just have to request that area. you could also do mccormick & schmick's downtown they have tables that are private with curtains too.

I agree with all of Reddie's suggestions, all are great.  Olivia has booths that are separated by an entire wall (so you can't see the other diners over the tops), which would be perfect. Louies 106 on 6th near Congress has a lot of private rooms.  You could probably call ahead and snag one if they aren't booked for private parties.  Zax Pints and Plates is also good with a variety of food, but I've only sat outside, so I don't remember if the inside is loud or not.  They have wooden floors, so I'm thinking it might be kind of loud.
