Undecided

Hi, my Finace and i went to see the Rotunda in the Colonnade in Coral Gables and loved it. They gave us a quote and it was a little above our budget. However they told us if we got married the weekend of Thanksgiving they would lower the price. We are not sure if to go with it or to keep looking. Has anyone gone to get quotes there and were you able to negotiate?

I am actually getting married at the Westin Colonnade in the Rotunda.  I really negotiated with them and by moving it by one week they lowered their price by $5k.  They really understand that we are in the middle of that horrible "R" word, and they are willing to negotiate.  I wanted my wedding for the weekend of Thanksgiving, but since we are having so many out of town guest we figured flights would be way too expensive.

That is what they told us but we are not sure about Thanksgiving weekend. But saving money is saving money and we absolutely loved it.

I'm a Rotunda bride myself. I know their minimums used to be really high (30-35k is what I heard) but when I called about 2 months ago, they went down to 10k. With their "budget menu" (I can't remember what they're calling it, it's about $73-75pp++) that was exactly what I was looking for.Perhaps because your preferred wedding date is so far away (I'm going by your ticker) they have increased the minimums because they assume the economy will pick up by then? Not sure. I think I remember hearing about a bride that was also getting pushed to go on Thanksgiving or New Years or some other holiday that they hadn't booked yet. But I wanted to give you the $ amount of the minimum I was quoted because I only contacted them since another Knottie had mentioned how low their minimums were. Perhaps if you move your date up in general (to early 2009) they might be more flexible?

Funny that you mention that. The only wedding I've been to at the Colonnade was in the Rotunda and it was the day after Thanksgiving. Most of the bride's family was from OOT and stayed at the hotel, so I assume the rates must've been pretty good. Many other knotties have considered the hotel recently too bc of their willingness to negotiate. HTH!

I got married there in January and negociating was a no go. They were really hard about it, saying that they were trying to compete with the Biltmore. So imagine my horror at today's prices. However, the lady I dealt with was particularly tough...even tears didn't work! But, I hear Ivette is easier to deal with...good luck!

Let whoever you are dealing with at the Colonnade know how much you want to pay for the Rotunda, and ask for different dates.  I am working with Ivette, and she told me exactly what months the Rotunda was available for $10k.

Thanksgiving weekend is a toughie.  It really depends on your guest list.  I'd be worried if you have a lot of OOT guests or if you think your in-town guests might be traveling that weekend.  However, if you love it, stick with it and definitely send out Save the Dates so people can plan to attend.GL
