For example, BF leaves a skillet on the stove after washing it, he says it reminds him that it doesn't go in the dishwasher. I don't really get it since he puts it there after washing, and I hate it being out all the time. He stopped for a long time but he just started doing it again. Drives me insane.So what are some things about your FI/DH that drove you insane when you first moved in?

He leaves all the cabinets open in the kitchen. Then when I close them all, he just looks at me like, "did I do that?"He has about 3 bottles of each thing in our medicine cabinet that is opened. Like, 3 bottles of the same hair gel, 2 ibuprofins, etc. I like it when people finish one and then move onto the next. Sometimes he won't start one and then looks at me saying, "we have to get every last drop because that's what Stina says" like I'm a bad person....He leaves all his dirty clothes on the floor next to the hamper....He leaves all his gum wrappers on his desk...when the trash can is right there.

Stina-We both do the multiple bottles of products open at the same time! We are bad about that. But with me it's usually different types of the same product. Like I have 3-4 kinds of shampoo because I want to try a new kind and am too impatient to finish what I already have. He also used to leave the pizza pan in the oven. He said it was because when he lived alone it was the only pan he used often. But every time I would preheat the oven I would forget and then have a hot pizza pan.

Oh Trinity you reminded me-dirty work socks on the KITCHEN COUNTER! Really, that one just totally disgusts me. And he manages a restaurant, so sometimes his feet get wet, and his socks are always gross. This is soothing. I really can't complain too much because most of the things that really bug me he does make a pretty good effort to remember not to do them. But seriously, socks on the counter? That's where I make my food. I always go behind him and scrub and disinfect, but it still feels gross.

Oh amalama I agree 100%! The only reason I can't live with FI now is that I have two girls, and I have to wait on one to graduate HS next year before we can move to FI's city, 70 miles away. I can tell you that we are exact opposite in how we live, so when we do that under the same roof, expect to find me here, screaming on the internet about it.

I don't live with FI right now, but one thing he does that kills me is the stacks of mail he leaves all over his dresser, his desk, in drawers, he saves everything!! Even old lottery tickets and random junk mail pieces. Just.don't.get.it.

FI has almost 2000 sq. ft. of JUNK. Literally. I have to clean the entire house out before I can move in, or even let my girls stay overnight. He's a packrat, and it makes me NUTS. Among the items in his house: seats to a 1974 mini cooper (he's restoring one), a lounge chair in the shape of a #48 Nascar helmet (he does PR for #48 and got it for free), about $2000 in fireworks (did a story, got them for free. See a pattern here?), 5000+ CDs (gig=free), Four rooms full of brand new clothes, and countless signed items from people. He has a serious problem. We're working on that.

Recycles on the counter, dirty clothes on the floor next to the hamper, he puts everything in the dryer again to air fluff it. The first time I went to his apartment when we were dating his counter had a bunch of trash on it. When I asked him why he said his trash can smelled so he throw it away.

Fi is a pack rat. His whole family is. His sisters at least acknowledge it. I, on the other hand, throw everything away. My rule is, if you don't use it in a year, you don't need it.One time his mom had the nerve to tell me I'll have to clean out all my junk. I refrained from mentioning her basement full of toys from the 70s.

dirty clothes next to the hamper... dirty clothes that don't make it in or next to the hamper are on the living room floor... thinks that "soaking dishes" should last 3-4 days... leaves his plates/cups out... takes up the whole bed... when "helping" to clean, he concentrates on the unnecessary things. i.e. instead of vacuuming the carpet, he'll do just the baseboards instead. there are so many more, but I've come to except them and now it's slowly becoming cute to me

We are having to change our operating definitions of "ready to go." When I say I'm ready it means I am holding my purse, shoes on ready to walk out the door. When he says he is ready to go, it means, "wait I need to check email, the weather, find my watch, wallet, glasses, shoes and get a drink for the road, and then unload crap from the car, and feed the dog... (you get the point.) It drives me especially crazy when we are already running late.

he can't put the cap/top/lid on anything.... soap, pens, shampoo, boxes in the cabinet. drives me nuts.he leaves tissues in his pocket, so they get all disgusting in the washerwe're moving right now, and in the process of packing, and he doesn't like the way I pack, so we're doing it his way. which means there is currently a box of books in our moving stack that weighs eleventy billion pounds that he doesn't want to divide into another one "because all books need to be together"

He is a strict bread constructionist. We have to have hoagie rolls, bread, hot dog buns, AND hamburger buns at the same time. The man will not eat a hot dog on bread or a sandwich on a hamburger bun. Burgers must go on burger buns, sandwiches of the deli variety go on hoagie rolls, peanut butter and grilled cheese go on bread, and so on. We have eleventy different kinds of carbs in our house at any one time. It's maddening.

Bec-About the saving things, he had a duplex in college for a couple years, then moved into his fraternity house. He put all his furniture into storage. This was 2002-2003. We moved into an apartment in 2006 and used some of it, and I tried to tell him to just donate the rest or get rid of it. Keep in mind this is first furniture, college duplex stuff, and he has been paying for this storage unit for 3-4 years at this point. He finally got rid of the storage unit when we got our house, but now half of it is sitting in our basement. His argument "But it was free, I can't just throw it out". With all the money he spent on storage we could have just bought brand new everything. This also includes a couch that his frat got rid of. If it isn't nice enough for a frat house, do you think I would want it in mine?

FI takes the contact solution out of the medicine cabinet in hte bathroom, uses it to refresh his contacts, and leaves it on the counter next to the sink... EVERY DAY! Arg... but I suppose if that's the worst thing I have to deal with, I've got it pretty good

I dont live with FI but i know things he does that annoys me leaves socks all over his kitchen floor, unfolded clothes on his couch, EVERYTHING on his kitchen table, dishes everywhere. I went over to his house after like 30 some days of not being there and it was a mess. I couldnt resist but to clean.

He is a beside-er.He sets trash on the counter beside the trash can instead of in it. He sets dishes beside the sink instead of in it. He throws socks beside the hamper instead of in it. I can't even comprehend this kind of logic.

Well, I'm definitely the messy one of the relationship so I think Dh would have more pet peeves than I would.My only one is that he throws away everything without looking at it. We've been working together to get rid of some debt (aka he threw away bills without paying them because he never opened the envelope) and now I'm in charge of all bill payment. When we first moved in together he threw out 4 bags of my stuff (clothes, books, dvd's, etc) because I had stuffed them into garbage bags and then shoved them in a closet (I ran out of boxes). We laughed about it afterward but I almost cried when I realized my diary from college was in those boxes :(Now he's only allowed to throw away items after getting my approval.

I can't complain about messiness because I am way worse than him. Here is what I can complain about:1. I understand clothes on the floor in the bedroom, but please no socks in the living room.2. He never cuts his toenails and he always ends up scratching me in the middle of the night while tossing and turning. 3. He has a habit where he shakes his leg while laying down. It's not subconscious or anything, he can stop if he wants. But the combo of the shaking + toenails have ruined some really nice 500 thread count sheets we splurged on a while ago.Weird, I just realized all those are related to feet, hmm...4. He never shuts lights.5. There's some financial stuff that bugs me but that's going to be resolved soon because I refused to do a joint account until we were engaged.6. He sleep talks and will often tap me in the middle of the night to tell me gibberish. Or he tries to cuddle with me (he will kill me if he sees this, lol) in the middle of the night, and I just want to sleep! So I tell him no and he gets really upset. Sometimes he wraps his arms around me anyway and then I have to shimmy out of his grasp. Then he doesn't remember any of this in the morning and I can't go back to sleep because I have a hard enough time falling asleep once.But he is also awesome about other things, like he takes care of the kitchen, keeps it neat and tidy, does all the dishes. That's his "chore" and he does it really well, so for that I applaud him.

Mine likes to pile trash on top of the trash can lid.. cause he's to lazy to open it or it's too full to fit anything else in it. He also leaves his socks EVERYWHERE, and then complains when the dogs play with them.
