Name change?

For those ladies who have been through this already:  How long did it take you to get your marriage license back before you could start getting everything going on your name change?  We are moving to Dallas in about three weeks, so I hope that I'll be able to do everything here.  I'm thinking that going to SS office and DPS will be more of a nightmare in Dallas.  TIA!

    I think it took right about 3 weeks to receive our license IIRC.  But I think the biggest factor is when your officiant mails it in.
    We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

    If you're in a big hurry and worried about not getting it back in time, you can call your officiant and ask if you can turn your marriage license in.  That's what we did(not cause we were in a hurry but b/c DH forgot to turn in our marriage license to our priest on the day of the wedding!!!!) and I paid $6 for a certified copy so I could start the name changing process. That might help.

    If you're moving to Dallas, I'd wait until I got there to do things.  The SS office won't care too much (except they will probably want to send it to your current *austin* address), but the DPS will actually give you a completely new license, and you'll need your Dallas address on there if you're moving permanently.  You also won't get your new DL on that day - the current wait is ~6 weeks (with the new licenses).  As for your question, it took about 3 weeks for ours to show up in the mail.

    It definitely depends on your officiant.  We got married on saturday, left on sunday for our honeymoon, came back the following saturday and our marriage license was already back!  So we got ours super fast!
