Lake Valhalla Club?

Hi all!  I'm thinking of LVC for my ceremony and reception.  Got back from there a few hours ago and thought it was pretty.  Hoping for some pros and cons from ladies who have had a wedding there, been a guest there, or considered booking there.  I'm likely going to have about 185 guests.  Now I'm going to have to add it to the list of places that both FI and I like along with Macaluso's and The Stony Hill Inn.  LVC is 30+ minutes away for most of my guests...but pretty direct highway access.  Any input is greatly appreciated!  :)

it was in my top 3.  loved the space and the grounds and the price -- you got a ton of food for the money, although i have no idea of the quality.  didn't like how the club was still open to members during your wedding and that to get to the bathrooms you'd have to walk past their bar with TVs.  i didn't need my guests chit chatting with random people or stopping to check the scores.

Great point, Allie!  I don't think I talked to Perry about that one...  Thanks. :)

I am getting married there in October.  I grew up in Montville and know several people that have had events there throughout the years. The club is NOT open to members if your wedding is over 150 people, so you should be fine.  I really like the fact that there is only one wedding at a time there, and their flexibility to really accomodate your needs impressed me greatly. The food is AMAZING.  FI and I went for a tasting before booking and were so impressed with the food - much better than any wedding I had ever been to.  Love the amount of food included in the package and the fact that cocktail hour is 1.5 hours long.  The hotel we're using is the Hyatt in Morristown.  They have a complimentary shuttle to and from the LVC for your guests, which is awesome! The only con I saw was the size of the place.  We're having 200+ guests and will have to use the back room that is sort of connected to the ballroom for some of our guests' seating.  We're planning on putting teenagers and kids in there anyway, so they'll likely be on the dance floor the whole time!Let me know if you have any other questions about the place.  I've been there too many times to count by now!

Thanks, TLC.  I'm going to just confirm with Perry that if I have over 150 that guests won't be interfering with my party.  I also just read on one of those yelp or yahoo type reviews that someone said there were kids in the water right behind the couple while they exchanged vows.  That would NOT work for me.  lol  I love kids...but not in the background of my wedding pictures.  FI and I haven't gone for our tasting yet, but we're going soon.  There is construction being done on the room to open up the back section so it flows nicely into the main room.  I believe he said that's being done over the winter...so you just missed it...but I'm sure it won't make a difference, as that is a very beautiful location...I'm sure even more so in the fall!  Thanks for the advice and I hope you'll post pics of your wedding! :)

Definitely check in with Perry on that.  Looks like you're getting married in the summer so it may be different for you.  I will post pics!  Good luck!

I went to see the LVC and loved it but what I didn't like is that members have access to everything even during your wedding. I remember asking Perry a million times about members coming and he said yes they have access but they usually don't come around. I felt for the money I was paying, they shouldn't be able to use the place. They can't come into the actual reception room but if you plan on using the other rooms for guest members can use that room too. They are allowed to use the bar in the other room all night.  That was the only reason why I didn't book with them. I remember reading reviews from brides that had members hang out during their reception or loud kids run through their ceremony.

Ughhh!  That would be the worst!  Thanks, littledaisies, for the response.  I'm going to give Perry a call soon and see if I can get some type of firm commitment about members.  If not, the search continues.  :)

LVC is where I am having my reception and I can't wait!!!  I have heard only wonderful things about it - food, service, scenery!!  Perry the manager is great too.  I can't wait!  What month are you getting married?  I would highly recommend it.  I spent summers there as a nanny and it's a great club.

DiorandKisses- You never know it might have changed since we looked. I went there in October to see the place. I told Perry that I wasn't booking with him because of the member issue and I read negative reviews regarding that. He seemed to be concerned about that so he may have changed it. I wasn't inviting as many people as you so maybe for a bigger wedding he would be willing to close it off. Good luck! I hope it works out because that places is so nice!

DiorAndKisses, did you have a chance to speak with Perry regarding the members?  I just learned about LVC tonight and am dying to visit (as long as he's closing the venue off for weddings with over 150 guests).  Thanks!  :)

I'm getting married there on SATURDAY! And I'm super excited.  I was originally concerned about the members thing too but it doesn't seem to be too much of a problem in the "off-season."  At least that's what I've heard from other LVC brides.  In the summer however, I see how that could be an issue.

The food is incredible. Or at least it was when I went for the tasting.

The main room itself is super charming.  Fireplaces, high mantles, dark chocolate chiavari chairs, the view.  The 2 gigantic and full bars featuring beer on tap(!)

The view is spectacular.  I only hope the rain holds up long enough on Saturday to get some good pictures.

And Perry is REALLY REALLY flexible.  The prices are reasonable to begin with but he will work with you from the first day you meet, up until the day of your wedding (in my case 3 days before the wedding.)  For example, I'm under the 150 person minimum and in order for me not to lose out on so much money, he's including some extras.

I haven't been anything but pleased the whole time working with Perry and am really looking forward to getting married there in 3 days!

However there are some things to consider
    1.  The main dining room is not big at all.  With only a sweetheart table in the middle, there is room for max 144 guests (12 tables of 12).  If you have two bridal tables of 5 each (which get moved out of the way later on as they are technically on the dancefloor), then the capacity of the room goes up to 154.  Now, if you're comfortable using the adjoining room to seat guests then obviously that can increase dramatically (I'm guessing 6 more tables of 10).  It was really important to me to only use the main dining room for dinner so I just kept the guest list at under 150.  I have 134 going so I'm safe.

@Liatris -- The affordable membership fee is not really a fee.   It's just the upfront cost to reserve the space.. it actually gets factored into your headcount amount so it's not really separate.  Membership fees in general (FI and I were thisclose to applying for membership), are approx $2500 per year which is not too bad...

If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me.  Obviously I'll have way more info after Saturday.

    Good luck girls!

Hi all! I just went to look at Lake Valhalla Club this past weekend and LOVED it!! However, with my guest list of 175-200 I am concerned that we will be too crowded and am not crazy about the overflow of tables into the windowed side room there. Has anyone had a wedding of this size here that can give me their thoughts?? I would sincerely appreciate ANY input!

Does anyone have pictures of their Lake Valhalla wedding that they would like to share with me?  I'd love to see what it looks like all done up.  I'm thinking about having my wedding there next fall.
