help...suggestions for Groom/Groomsman attire!

Our wedding is in April in Key Largo, FL on the beach at sunset.  Neither of us want a tradition/formal wedding.  I am wearing a simple/elegant dress and the bridesmaids are wearing strapless summer dresses from Jcrew.  I want the guys to be comfortable and look nice.  I am not interested in them wearing a suit or even a jacket.  Another problem I am running into, 5 of the guys, including the groom, needs tall sizes.Any suggestions on what to wear and where to buy???Thanks!!!

Re: help...suggestions for Groom/Groomsman attire!

  • My first suggestion was either tan suits, or khaki pants with white shirts and navy blue blazers. But if you don't want jackets, you could do khaki pants with collared button-down shirts. What does your FI think? Did he ask you to decide?

  • He is a pretty simple guy, and loved getting married on the beach so he wouldnt have to dress up.  So I know jackets and suits are out of the question, which I am totally ok with.  He said he wanted to do khaki's with a white button up.  But I didnt know if I wanted the groomsman in white as well.  I also thought about polos, but I wasnt sure if they were nice enough.
  • I think I'd do a buton-up over a polo. Polos aren't bad, but IMO the button-up would look better. What are your wedding colors? The guys could wear a colored button-up (or maybe black) and your FI could be in white, if he wants. Or they could wear white with some kind of pattern or design, and he could wear solid white. Or he could have a boutonniere pinned on his shirt, and the other guys could go without flowers.

  • What would your FI like to wear?My coworker was married in Jamaica and the men were in black linen pants and short sleeved white linen shirts. The attire is your FI's call though.  Ideally you wouldn't choose a dress that you know he dislikes and he hopefully won't do the same with his attire - but just like your dress is your call, what he wears is his call.
  • If you  go to vineyardvines.com and look at some of their many wedding pictures, you'll get some ideas.  The guys do have on jackets in just about all of the pictures but you could do the same look without the  jackets.IMO, golf shirts are a bit too casual for the most important day in your life.
  • We had an island wedding in Florida as well, where the girls wore J.Crew.  The guys wore linen pants, with a white shirt and tie.  Pictures in Bio.
  • Do you have an S&K in your area?  They have filed for bankruptcy and most of the stores are closing meaning that everything is on sale.  They sell men's dress pants, button up shirts, ties, etc.  You could probably find some nice pants and shirts for them.  Since they're a men's store I guess they'd probably carry tall sizes.
  • We do actually have S&K, I have never been, so I never thought of it.  I agree the polos are too casual.  I think we will just go with Khakis and a button up, still not sure what kind, but I have some time.  I appreciate everyones advice!
  • Check out the taupe colored Alfresco suit from Jim's Formal Wear.  They allow you to rent just the pants and shirt.  My cousin used them for a beach wedding last fall; they looked great!  And they fit everyone...small to x-large.
