Thinking about wearing my moms dress

    O and take a look at the pic please let me know what you think or any ideas to make it look up to date I don't like the lace stuff so I would take that out.

    It does fit you well!  I would take the sheer material off of the neck line as well.

    OHHH Love it...well the vision of what it could be. What an amazing idea. I want to try my mom's dress on as well, she has the same style, did your mom get married in the later 80's? :)

    I think you could def work with it.  I like the sheer neckline but if you want it to look more modern I would get rid of that too. Perfect fit and length!

    I love it! I really wanted to wear my mom's gown as well, but the material is a little too 1975 for the feel of our wedding.     I would def get rid of the sleeves, shoulders, and the neckline, since you don't like that. However, I WOULD keep the lace at the top, but instead of having it be that flutter thing, I would have someone stitch it down so it becomes part of the bodice. The lace really makes that dress and it would maintain some of the original essence of the gown, without looking dated since it would be fitted to the bodice. I love the wide neckline, so the sleeveless look would look great. You could sexy it up a bit if you wanted by opening up the back of it a little. It could be shortened a bit too.     You could do a drop back.  That would really modern it up.  Corsets are also pretty popular now and I think they're a pretty easy addition.  I'm not sure how that would look without seeing the back though.

But I think this would save so much money and be very unique and meaningful.

    I think you could definitely get away with a lower back. Ooh! You could even use the extra lace hanging off of the back to cover what would be the cut out, so you would have like a sheer lacy back with skin showing...which I think would look awesome and really unique. Again, you'd still be keeping the essence of the dress by not getting rid of all of the lace. Another option would be to just get rid of the back lace all together, do a low V back, and use the lace remnants for a purse, garter, etc.
