Venues?

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here.I'm planning an October 2010 wedding in Scranton, but I'm planning it FROM AZ. A little bit stressful, but all we really need to do in the immediate future is nail down a venue. I'm flying out to PA for a visit in the 1st two weeks of September, and we'll pick something then, which will be a huge load off my mind. I've been calling places and getting information - it's amazing how many places in Scranton still snail mail info instead of emailing it. We have a few places we're going to look at, and I wanted to see if anyone here has any opinions on them - whether you used them yourself or decided not to for one reason or another.Also, if you have any places in the Scranton area that I haven't considered, please let me know that as well! The church is in Clarks Summit, so we're trying to stay reasonably close to that. Here's what we'll be visiting when I'm there:The Inne of the Abingtons (a frontrunner, but my mother recently attended a brunch wedding there and said the food wasn't great)Montdale Country ClubThe Green Ridge ClubThe Ramada in Clarks Summit (their lowest package is JUST within the budget)The Colonnade (probably WAY out of the budget, but very nice)St. Mary's Center in ScrantonIf any of you have used any of these locations, or saw them and rejected them, I'd love to hear about it!Thanks.

I just booked my venue a few months ago and pretty much looked at most of those. The Inne of the Abingtons-Looks nice, affordable. I went to a wedding there in June and the food was aweful. The staff were all very nice. Montdale Country club- I know they probably do the most weddings in the area. Their prices were reasonable. We didnt pick them only because they use 2 rooms. One for bigger weddings and one for smaller weddings. We are looking at around 110 people. They would only let us use the small room, but I didnt like the way that one looked. they do have a really nice outside area for great pics though!The Colonnade is beautiful. They are pretty new so I havent tried their food yet. It was out of my budget and they only hold like 75 people I think they said. They also have tents outside if there are more people.I didnt look at St mary's center, but I have been there for many school functions growing up. The food was decent. Staff were nice. Thats all I remember about it.Green Ridge club- Its really nice inside, the prices are good. I havent had their food though.My reception is at the Regal Room in Olyphant (Regalroom.com). Its about 10 minutes from your church. I dont know what your budget is, but their prices are VERY reasonable. The food is awesome. I have been to a wedding there and loved it. All of the food is homemade and not brought in frozen. HTH If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Oh hooray! Thank you both.Thanks for the confirmation about the Inne of the Abington's food - their packages are great and they are REALLY nice, but food is a sticking point.As for the Regal Room - I think I glanced at them briefly, but was a bit confused by the website (it's all kind of blending together now) - do they serve/include alcohol in their packages?I hadn't even thought of Villa Maria II - that's another one for the list. God only knows what the list is going to be like, we're inviting maybe 120-130, and my fiance's family is VERY unlikely to attend.And I know I should check out Genettis, but my mom is against them - because she hates the commercial! Haha.Thank you again!

Their website is aweful for wedding info. You would have to call them to send you their different packages. My package includes hot and cold appetizers butlered, soup, salad, sorbet, choice of 2 dinners (including prime rib), 5 hour open bar, choice of wedding cake from a local baker, and floral centerpieces. Also linens, napkins and all that stuff.

I just got married in Clarks Summit on the 18th, so if you need any help or have any questions, let me know. I planned our wedding from Florida, so I know what you're going through.We had our reception at the Scranton Country Club, but we had looked at Inn at Nichols Village as well. Nichols Village is a great location if you're having a smaller wedding...The choices listed above by the other girls are great suggestions.

Hello!My wedding is Sept 18th of next year, and I just booked Fern Hall Inn. The grounds are absolutley stunning...and I've heard great things about the food. Not sure if you want indoors/outdoors? Mine is all outdoors. Sam, the owner, has truly been wonderful. We've even got the price down to around $60pp (including all taxes!). They are very willing to work with you. Check them out. http://www.fernhallinn.com/As for the Inne, I have heard many mixed reviews. I looked there myself 2 weeks ago, and as soon I stepped in the door, it smelled like cat urine. Awful! However, I wantedmine all outside. They have a nice outdoor pavillon that would be great for cocktail hour and dancing. However, I have heard the food is way hit or miss, and I wouldn;t want to be the miss. Also, the rear bathrooms are hideous and smelly. BUT, their price is crazy low. Another place to look at is the Stone Bridge Inn. It is right next to Elk Mountain, and wouldn't be too far from Clarks Summit. The feel is very Old World...the views are stunning, and they have a really neat set-up. My parents know the owner, and they are really great people. Perfect for a wedding under 150 people. i was at a wedding at the inne of the ablingtons last year and if you choose to do buffet they put iit right across the dance floor which personally, i think looks awful ! .. and the food is very bland the green ride country club is nice but their food is alo very nice the colonade is gorgeous but very small they have tents to put up but it splits the reception up into different locations the scranton country club is very nice and reaonably affordable a friend of mine is getting married at montdale next september and is loving this place ! .. I personally booked the waterfront banquet facility in plains pa; about 15 minutes from clark summit. Its about 70pp including tax including 5 hour bar . 1 hour open bar cocktail hour. hors d' oeuvres (3) are butler passed also includes a cheese cracker display or pasta station during cocktail hour. and choice of 3 entres. also includes wedding cake and chair covers and bows .. their patio is gorgeous when decorated and they also leave that open during the reception so guests have some where to smoke.

You guys are awesome. Planning from across the country is definitely going to be a chore, but I'm glad I can come here to get some opinions.Looks like I'm going to take both The Colonnade and The Inne of the Abingtons off my list - I wouldn't want to be the miss, either.I contacted Genettis, The Regal Room and I'm trying to get ahold of Villa Maria II (they don't answer their phone!), they all look like good ideas.I'd not even heard of Stonebridge, and I'm definitely going to give the Waterfront another look.Re: Gennettis - I told my sister I was calling them and she immediately quoted a commercial that used to play constantly when we were growing up, and now it's stuck in my head."Mommy... can I have a Gennetti wedding?"

I have no help, but I can relate. I'm in NYC and DH is also from AZ and planning a wedding in central PA was so hard...everyone uses real mail and doesn't check email or anything. Good luck with it all!

I did have my wedding at Colarusso's in Moosic and LOVED it! Definitely let me know if you have questions. Sno Grille on Montage Mountain also does weddings as does Via Appia in Taylor.

Sorry this is so late, but Im a lurking insomniac. I have been to weddings at St Mary Center and I thought they were really nice. I've heard the Green Ridge Club is "meh, at best". The Colonnade is incredible, but I have no clue about price range. We looked at the Inne at the Abingtons... I was less than impressed and EVERYTHING smells like chlorine due to the indoor pool.We're having our reception in October at the Tripp House in Scranton. It can only accommodate 100 guests (realistically, I would say 80), but it is unique, beautiful and as budget friendly as you would like it to be. There is no package. You pick your caterer, your linens, and you purchase your own alcohol. You can be as extravagant or low key as you would like...We're having our ceremony on the second floor of the Scranton Cultural Center. The 2nd and 4th floors are really beautiful and less expensive than the grand ballroom (which would swallow 130 guests). Good luck planning!
