Downtown/Loop Hotel Recommendations?

I just booked our venue today - Pazzo's for 4/17/10.  Does anyone have recommendations for hotels nearby?  The W City Center can't discount rates because of a convention that is in town that weekend.Pazzo's recommends Club Quarters, but I have co-workers that have had questionable experiences at Club Quarters in other cities.  Any experiences here?TIA!!

We had our hotel block at the Westin River North, which is pretty close to Pazzo's.  We had a few minor hassles when setting up the block, but the weekend of the wedding they were awesome!  I also really liked the lounge/bar area where guests could mingle each night.  I'd definitely recommend it!

We had a room block at Club Quarters (Wacker at Michigan) for our wedding, but none of our guests opted to use it (we had blocks at 2 other hotels as well). Before we booked, we went to take a look- it wasn't bad.  Clean, adequate rooms- nothing fancy.I do know that there is another Club Quarters in Chicago- maybe on Adams?  DH had some out of town co-workers stay there, and they complained non stop about it (and eventually switched hotels).  I think it is all in what you are expecting. I have stayed at Club Quarters in NYC (midtown) previously, and it was also fine.

I blocked rooms at Palmer House Hilton for $159/night.  I think it is close to Pazzo's. My best friend blocked rooms at Club Quarters for the same reason (convention in town).  I thought it was fine - not fancy, but clean.  The best part is its location - right on the river, walking distance to Michigan Avenue shopping and Millenium Park.

We also did the Palmer house and were happy.  Our guests really enjoyed the ambiance there, and their rooms.  We received excellent service the weekend of (the setting up and contact before hand was a little slow, but they always eventually took care of my issues).

Half of our guests were at the Club Quarters on Adams and the other half at the Palmer House. Both provided great service for our guests.  The Palmer house recent renovated and the room are beautiful.  CQ's rooms are nice and efficient.  They all have desks and flat panel TV's.  Not fancy, but not cheap either.

Creese72 - we are date twins! So can you believe there is really a conference in town? I always heard people run into that, but I really never thought I would! Do you know what conference it is? We are looking further north (getting married in LP), but I did see the W Lakeshore had pretty good rates. We did a bid on hotelplanner.com and it seemed like all the "city center" hotels were booked. There are others though a little further you could check. Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, Sheraton City Center had rooms, Hotel Felix had rooms. My friend did her block at the Westin River North, it was great, but she did have to fill 70% of the block. I'm only (trying to) looking at places that I don't need to guarantee anything. Oh the James had rooms when I checked too. Good Luck on the hotel and let me know if you find out what conference it is! :)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!  I will definitely look into all of these.Steph - cool that we are date twins!  I can't wait to hear how all of your planning progresses.  We've only been engaged for 3 weeks, so I'm happy that I'm this far along!  I've also never heard of hotelplanner.com - great tip. The convention is the National Kitchen & Bath Show.~Cathy  ;-)

Hey Cathy! Just wanted to rec the Palmer House again! I've actually stayed there many times (though am not dealing with them for my wedding) and I just like it!!!

Cathy- Thanks for the update! Yeah check out hotelplanner.com, you can put out a bid to all the hotels in the area, then they reply with their offers. You can then deny bids based on contract restrictions, etc and manage it all from one website. It is pretty nice actually. I've been engaged since March, and have most vendors booked, the good news about April is that there are a lot more vendors open than during peak wedding season in the summer:)Happy Planning!!

The crown plaza just west of the highawy on Madison is pretty close...not an ideal location for out of towners that want to see the city but it's a good option that is close to Pazzo's.

I stayed at the club quarters on Adams for a wedding a few years ago.  I can't really complain about anything, the rate was super cheap for a city hotel, under $100. The room was TINY, but I was barely there, and again, can't complain because I got what I was paying for.  I have also stayed at the palmer house hilton and it was great both times I was there--but I had a huge suite, so I don't know what the 'normal' rooms are like. Also, maybe check out Hotel Allegro, its also right in the loop.

Oh, and I just remembered a La Quinta hotel just opened up at Madison and Franklin in the loop.  Never been there, but its brand new.

I second the Westin River North.  Our hotel block is set-up there.  FI and I went to check out the hotel before we blocked it and there is an awesome lounge area that January Bride mentioned.  Plus it's a great location, right on the river.

We booked our hotel block at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the west loop.  Room rates were only $145 a night and the hotel itself is only 3 years old so everythign is pratically brand new.  It is right off the Madison exit form 90/94.

I am having my wedding at Pazzo's 311 also.  We are having our hotel block at the W City Center.  However, we were thinking about doing the Westin, Hotel 71, or the Rennisance. Since there is nothing going on in chicago that weekend we happened to get a good rate at the W.  My FI really wanted the Westin though.  Its at a very good location.

I forgot to mention one reason I really liked the Westin: we could do our first meeting on a bridge over the river since the Westin is right on the river.  That was really nice, and our out of town guests loved the river-view rooms a well.
