Honeymoon!

So I haven't posted a ton on here in the last few months but I totally need to be an AW about this check because I felt so far behind when everyone started posting about booking their honeymoons and FI and I had barely looked.

We booked our flights to Italy! We are flying into Rome, spending four nights there before moving on to Florence where we will spend a week. From there we will go to Venice for 2-3 nights and we will fly home from Venice.

This is a dream trip for me, I am SO EXCITED!!!

Awesome have an amazing time. I can recommend Baldovino for dinner one night. It's right on the street I used to live in Florence- Borgo Allegri (is the street its on, on the bottom end) and its right off the main rd. Via Ghilaberina (can't remember how its spelt) near Santa Croce. They have the most amazing pizza, try the wild boar pizza!!

Also, there is a place in florence called the "oil shop" you have to go to if you get a chance. It's right near the duomo- about a 10 minute walk. And the guy in there makes suggestions for you (he is kind of like the soup nazi) you pick a cheese or meat and he will suggest what vegetables or sauces to put on it. I was in love with their truffle sauce.

If you want any more florence suggestions let me know. I spent a semester there that turned into another 4 months because I just coulnd't leave! So all in all about 9 months.

I also suggest a trip to Cinque Terra If you have the time. It's about 2.5 hrs from florence, but its TOTALLY worth it. It is the most amazing place I have traveled to thus far, and I have been lucky neough to travel to amazing places like egypt, hong kong, london, barcelona, etc. You can stop at Pisa on the way (no need to spend more than 30 min or an hr in pisa), then continue on to Monterosso- and you can reach the rest of the town through there.

    That is an amazing honeymoon!!!

12012do, thank you for the suggestions! I may have to PM you for more as we get closer :)

Cinque Terre is definitely on our list, even though we've rented an apartment for a week in Florence we plan to take the train to CT and spend the night in a hotel there. It looks so amazing!

  • I second the Cinque Terre recommendation, it's the most beautiful place!  They had a devastating mud slide last year, but I would expect things to be cleaned up by now.  You can do the 5 towns in a long day trip if you take the train between the towns with the harder hikes.  I really think that Rick Steve's Italy book is great for all the places you are going, he has recommendations and walking tours that I loved, and ipod podcasts for tours (really great in Rome) that are free!  And it's really fun to read up before the trip to get excited about everything.

I'm so jealous of your honeymoon, you are going to have an amazing time!!

Oh, and Pisa, well, there's not much to do.  We hit it up on the way to Cinque Terre, ran from the train station to the leaning tower, saw that it was still leaning, and ran back to the train.  I would have spent more time in Cinque Terre if I had known better, but the obligatory leaning tower pic is fun.  It's quite a walk from the train to the tower.

Also, if you're taking the train from Florence to Venice, get your tickets/reservations for the high speed train when you first get to Florence, they fill up fast!
  • yay!! What a fun check!! I have always wanted to go to Italy....so jealous!!!

  • Super jealous, sounds like a once in a lifetime trip! Our honeymoon will be the first 'real' vacation I ever been on (real meaning not as a child with family) and the first time either of us has ever left the country... so even going to Mexico is exciting to us. I think I would burst at the seams with excitement if we were going to Italy! lol
