Our place is all inclusive including tax, service, etc. so it was one flatt fee which we really liked.

Like how much money did we get off the original price?Or are you asking what people are Paying per person?

We asked them if they could match another venue's price. (hint: you can lie a little and tell them it's a bit lower than it actually is. They'll never know). Example: You are at the W in South Beach and you love it! Their per person price is $200 but your budget is $140. You tell them, "I like you, but I also liked The Mandarin Oriental - and they offered us a package that included open bar, cocktail hour passed hors'doeuvres, a duo plate of filet and salmon and wedding cake, all for $140. Can you find a way to match that package and price?" Be sure to mention a true competitor or above, and not someone that is obviously a lower tier than them. They may take something out of the package to make it work, like simply an open bar instead of table wine pouring service, a chicken entree instead of filet mignon, passed horsd's instead of passed and station, no wedding cake/dessert, no first course, only salad instead of soup and salad, etc. If they won't budge, move on! Note: You'll have better luck if your wedding is in off-season, like summer. In-season they are not as desperate.

I don't think I really answered your question. They gave us $30 off their originally quoted pp price.

YHFoxtrot, What I'm asking is if you were able to knock of a pp price. For example, if they offered $160pp, were you able to get them down to $130pp, etc.

Ah ok that's what I thought you were asking. The answer is Yes 10000 percent. Whatever an asking price is, you can ALWAYS get it down somewhat. It's like when you go to buy a car, you never pay the sticker price. And in this economy, you can definitely negotiate more b/c more people and places are looking to bring in business. So if the asking price per person is $200 then you can probably get them down to $175 at the very least... When I was looking at venues, I didn't waste time negotiating with everyone but my two top choices were the Fontainbleau and the Epic and I spent a lot of time going back and forth to see if I could get what I wanted at a price we could palate. I basically told them what I could spend and what I wanted for that price. In the end the Fontainbleau came down a LOT from the original price but it was still really high.Basically b/c they would have a base price and then I'd say I want to add stations and this and that and if you pieced it all together the cost per person (Before tax) would be over $300 each. Eventually they came down to around $250 per person to include most of what I wanted but I felt that was still far too much esp for what I was getting. It was the same way with Epic, only I got more for my money at the Epic. More hors d'ouvres and more stations and courses etc at a little bit less.To answer the question directly, when you pieced out what all the things I wanted based on the list prices, it was probably about $50-60 more per person than I ended up with. She gave us a bit of a deal on it.Sadly, my cost per person is still a decent amount over $200 a head but I'm getting a lot of food for that amount ... and in order to meet the minimum I kind of needed to keep my cost per person on the higher side anyway... since I'm having around 100 ppl. Bottom line, it never hurts to ask. A lot of places will work with you if you tell t hem what you want and what you can spend. HTH.

I had luck with getting proposals from other venues and then actually faxing the proposal to my venue. It definitely helped that the W was not open yet and really wanted to get weddings booked, but they worked with us when a lot of other venues reached a bottom line and refused to go lower. If you cannot get your pp as low as you like, consider getting them to lower prices or work with you in other areas, like valet cost or room cost. YHFoxtrot, Thanks for all of your info : )  That is a hefty price tag but I bet you're getting SO much. That is a beautiful venue and I saw their packages. Very much food/dessert. Awesome!
