We're getting a dog!

I'm excited but nervous...another responsibilty...kinda scary.  We went to Petco the other day and were playing with all the doggies.  I told Andrew I wanted a full grown one that was potty trained and out of his/her chewing up crap stage (Oscar has scared me to death Amber...our $3000 couches ...agh...scares me!).  Andrew wants a puppy, one who can grow up with us.  He was soo cute playing with the puppies there so I agreed.     I want a Doberman, a big one, but ANdrew wants a small dog like a Chihuahua so we compromised on a miniature pinscher.  We may or may not go with this type of dog...depends on what we find at the shelters/pounds.  I've seen a few but they all seem to be in L.A.  Anyway, we'll be getting a little doggy soon!  This will hopefully quench my baby fever some.

I will say that I agree with Andrew on the small dog idea. It seems like they would/ could do less damage than a big dog. I also like the puppy idea because getting an adult dog can be hard when it comes to breaking them of bad habits their previous owners were ok with. Puppies are just easier to train. Just whatever you do don't get anything with Beagle mixed in no matter how cute it makes them look. We did not research the breed before getting Oscar and I think that was our biggest mistake. Beagles are known for their digging and destruction

How exciting. I love having my puppy. It didn't do anything for my baby fever, I think it made it worse actually.I agree with Amber, research the breed. I didn't I just went by, oh it is so cute. I love my dog, but didn't know what she was mixed with exactly. All we know is the mom looked like a chi-mix. Well we are now thinking Jack Russell, because she is a climber, and an escape artist. She has learned how to climb up our bed, and our table, which are both higher than normal. We got her when she was 8 weekish, and she has been super easy to train. It was nice not having to fix bad training by previous owners, but having to deal with the puppy stage sometimes drives me crazy. Also, if you get a hyper dog and get them spayed or neuter, just know you will most like have to crate and sedate them for the full 7-10 days. Allie was so hard to take care of bc she was so hyper, and is a jumper.
