Taxes, Gratuity, Extra Charges?

Can any of you married ladies tell me how these are factored once you get the final cost of food/services? I will have the Mass sales tax 6.25%, gratuity of 16% and a club charge of 4%. I am just curious because I assume they can't tax gratuity right? but can they tax the club charge? etc. TIA!

I'm not positive since our venue included all of those in the package price and we didn't have to calculate anything. That being said, I would think that they can't tax the tip but they could tax the club charge.

No they don't tax the gratiuty.  Just had up all your percents, so for you .2625 %  and figure out your total extra, so if your plates were 60 pp then your total extra would be $15 pp.  Thats how my place did it anyway and then I just told myself it was $75 a plate.  Hope that helps

The MA tax is a tax on the sale of certain goods and services.  Tips and gratuity fall outside that definition.  I know that room rental fees are subject to tax, but I'm unfamiliar with what a club charge is.  Look to your catering contract for more info on that.

Hi, Our venue charges the 6.25% meal tax, 15% gratuity, and a 5% admin fee.  The coordinator told us to use the the figure 26.75% when trying to figure out the total cost.  We did this and my figure came out exactly what the venues estimate was.  It's nice to have the figue so you can work the #'s based on different amounts of guests. Thanks for posting this!  We're having a luncheon after the ceremony at a restaurant.  In addition to the menu prices, the restaurant charges a 2% fee for use of the private dining room, an 18% service charge, and MA tax.  I'd been wondering how this would all fit together.

The MA tax is on it's own as you already know...6.25%  As for the gratuity and club charge, ask your venue if they are taxed.  Each venue is different...some venues don't have a "gratuity" listed but, instead, list it as a "service charge" and, yes, some venues WILL tax service charges AND club charges.  I would suggest you ask them just in case.  GL!
