Sorry if this has been posted before - I did a quick search and didn't see anything so I thought I'd start a new thread. Our wedding will have a bit of a nostalgic/family theme, so let me know if this is at all appealing: I thought maybe FI and I could each pick out our favorite family recipe, I'll type them up on old-looking paper in typewriter font to give it a cute vintage look, and include a message like "From our family to yours. Thank you for sharing this day with us". Then I thought I'd stick the recipe cards in these cool DIY placecard holders:

I realize that not every guest would find this appealing, but I can't really think of a favor that everyone
would find appealing. And at least they are cheap (nearly free considering the wine consumption in our family). The only ideas I really like are edible favors or lottery tickets, both of which don't have to be very expensive but certainly more expensive than the recipes. I think it's a nice touch, but what do you think??

I'm kind of "eh" on this. If I have to go home, buy the ingredients, and then cook the recipe, it's not much of a favor to me. If there is no room in the budget for favors,it's certainly okay to skip them altogether. They're not expected.

[QUOTE]I love this idea. But I like "yjdkiy's" idea of attaching the recipe to one of the key ingredients. I always look forward to trying out new recipes. And as for having to go ut and buy ingredients most people have most of what you need. I think a favor that will last a lifetime is a great favor.

Doesn't that depend on what the recipe's for? If it's sugar cookies, sure. But if it's something like paella, no.

We are planning to do something very similar. Our wedding is at a vineyard next October, and to keep with the theme, we'll be making little bags with mulled wine ingredients. I think it's cute to share family recipes, as long as you put an ingredient with the card.
