Please offer suggestions

I am getting married 6/19/10 at MSU. I still need to book a photographer, cake and flowers....I am not looking to spend a ton of moolah. Any suggestions? Anyone I should avoid?? You can also email me if you dont want to post anything on here. Thanks! Jen msu61910@yahoo.com

I was very happy with Addy's Floral in Lansing. Shirley is awesome! Cake: I used Shorty's Cakes & Bakes in Dewitt. Rachelle is very cool, and her prices are very reasonable.  The cake turned out beautifully -- and tasted even better.  She actually made two cakes for us - the wedding cake and a special anniversary cake. I highly recommend the Chocolate Mint flavor and the Strawberry.

I haven't done those things yet, either, but I would recommend Mandy Johnston for photographer.  She did a friend's wedding at the Union and I loved the pictures.  I will probably use her myself in the end.  Her website is http://mandy.johnston.googlepages.com/home

We're using Jill with Two Ring for photographry, Corrine from Sebesta Designs is doing my flowers and Rhonda with Tasty Layers is making our cake. They are all amazing vendors and I can't wait for my wedding thanks to them. The arent' the lowest or highest budget vendors out there but I think they provide the most for what you pay and they were all very willng to work within our price range. Definately worth a look. http://www.tworingphotography.com/http://www.tastylayers.com/http://www.sebestadesign.com/

I can't say enough about our photographer, Ben Friedkin. He was early on our wedding day, had staked out places to take photos, made everyone laugh (a lot), and fit in with us very well. Nobody noticed him a the reception unless we asked him to take a specific shot. One of my coworkers joked that she wants to get married again so he can take her photos! His style is artistic and his photos so far are BEAUTIFUL. Check out his blog: http://benjaminfriedkin.com/blog/ We're Julie and Nate.

I'd like recommend Chapelure Bakery/Cafe in East Lansing for your wedding cake. The baked goods are European style and absolutely gorgeous and delicious. It's like looking into the window of a French bakery! I am getting my wedding cake made from them. They have been in business for a little over a year, and are really up and coming. The cafe is always busy and when I was there earlier today, I saw the head pastry chef have back-to-back appointments on wedding cake consultations. They are located behind Sansu Sushi on Hagadorn road. Phone number is 517-333-7172. Best time to reach the head pastry chef is before 1pm. Also, the prices are very reasonable!

Fake Flowers have been an amazing save for me. I bought them at Michaels at 50% off, the 'real looking' roses were usually 4 I got them for 2. Doing mine and 5 girls plus moms, boys, etc. I think has cost me about $300 and they look very real.As for a photographer - you'll want to put more money here b/c its the only thing you'll have after the wedding. You want to be happy with what you get. I'm using Chad Bosma out of GR. He is $1500 but I have all picture rights, he'll go as many places as I need him, etc. Find one that fits your style. One way to save on cake is to have a fake cake. My 'cake' in the reception hall will be strofoam except the top layer. It will be beautifully decorated but not real, then I'm having the sheet cakes used as cake to serve. Sometimes this costs more sometimes way less. Good luck. Also consider, cookies, cupcakes, etc.
