Breaking the Glass

Hello there Ladies!I was wondering if your FI broke a real glass or a light bulb at the end of the ceremony. Our Rabbi told us we could wrap a light bulb in foil to contain the shards of glass, and that a light bulb would be easier to break than a glass.I had never heard of this, but was hoping for some input! I wouldn't want to wrap the bulb in so many layers of foil, FI can't break it! hahaTIA!

We used a lightbulb - it makes a good crunching sound. Our rabbi advised us to put it in a plastic baggie, then wrap it in a napkin, so that if we wanted to keep the shards, they would be easy to collect after the ceremony.

we are also using colored glass that we will put in a mezuah after. It is a wine glass with the stem cut off of it.

We are using a special glass intended for breaking (the blue freckled one in the picture, below). We are having a fused glass mezuzah made out of the shards afterward.

We used a glass that already had a crack in it. And we had a back-up lightbulb available in case it didn't break that easily. And then we forgot to assign someone to bring it home with us.

FMIL used a lightbulb at her recent remarriage and his grandmother recommended it. Because I'll want something to save, I'll get a special glass but nothing too pricey for the breaking.

I am also using the blue speckled "shardz" brand glass. We are getting the glass incorporated into shabbat candle sticks after the wedding.

We used a real glass. Tip- a champaign flute or other glass with a long stem works very nicely,
