photography

I booked the DJ, so my next 'check' is the photographer.  What kind of package are you ladies getting? I'm inclined to forgo the album and prints in favor of a CD with printing rights so we can make our own album. Seems less expensive. But FI doesn't trust computers completely and is worried that something will happen to the CD and we'll be stuck with no tangible photographic memories. (We are "technology immigrants," being of an advanced age and not having grown up with computers since birth.) Any experiences?  Recommendations? TIA

I had wanted the same thing (no prints, but rights to all of them to print myself.) Our photog suggested to at least do an album, since in his experience, most people who say they're going to do it all themselves end up pushing it off and then it just never gets done (and I totally see myself doing this!). So what we ended up going with is: we get our proofs online in 6 days, then we get full 4x6 printed proofs of all of the photos in a keepsake box. We will be getting an album, and then a DVD with all of the photos and the rights to print them. So we can make all of our own enlargements/prints, but we will have prints of every one of the photos in case anything would ever happen to the DVD. Plus we have the album, which is a more creative collection of our favorites.

I def. recommend the option to have your images on CD/DVD. I don't think I quite understand your FI's worry though. You receive your CD. You print whatever images you want. If, before you order your prints and something happens to the CD/DVD, your photographer will still have the images - they're not gone forever, or shouldn't be anyway.

I'd recommend to get the cd w/the rights as well, but I want to add that you should prob. get some of your fav. pics printed from the photog.  We got the rights to the pics w/the cds, but because they're high-res, they don't print well at like Wal-Mart & Target, (the cheap instant kiosks).  I haven't tried the one hour or getting any printed through an online source yet, but just so you have a heads up.

good points, all.  I can definitely see myself putting things off and never doing an album, so it's a good idea to get some prints from the photog.FI is worried that we'll bring the CD home and it won't work or will be corrupted or something and then we'll be stuck with nothing.  I don't share his worry, but he is not so comfortable with computers -- which makes it even more amazing that we met online!Any recommendations on vendors?

Just tell your FI that the CDs are just images copied from the photographer's computer. Though I'm not 100% on this, I would imagine most pros backup their client images somewhere. As far as vendor recs, I've worked with the following this year: Krisha Martzall Mike Landis Jenn Childress Shannon Confair I recommend all!

we also got the rights to all of our pictures and our photographer sent us a thumb drive with over 1400 pictures.  We also get a 40pg album with our package which is going to be amazing.  We used Eric Mott who worked well over his hours, included an engagement shoot, and we couldn't have better pictures.  He was very inexpensive b/c weddings are something he does on the side with his wife, he is a fashion photographer by day so it's not about the money for him.  He was amazing to work with

I would recommend Artistic Difference. I don't know what your budget is, but I do know that they are much more reasonable then most. They shot a wedding I attended last year and when I saw the pictures I knew I wanted them to shoot my wedding. www.artisticdifference.com contact: Philip Savard

Marc Anthony Photography www.premierweddings.tv Marc has been so great to work with so far! He is from NJ but does a lot of weddings in Philly and he's willing to travel. He's coming to Lancaster for our wedding next June. He includes all the high res images on a CD with the rights and you get an engagement session, all day coverage on wedding day, and a second shooter for $2350. We did our engagement session with him in March and he was so nice and easy to work with! I highly recommend him! Good luck!

Mine is out of Bloomsburg, but they may be willing to travel to you.  They traveled an hour to me.   www.minnigphotography.com If you end up going with them, tell them Laura from the July 11th wedding recommended you!

I would also highly recommend Minnig Photography. www.michaelminnig.com It sounds like they travel everywhere and they were absolutely incredible at my friend's wedding. They are a husband and wife so you get two photographers and they spend the entire day with my friend... from the salon through the end of the night.
