NWR:Online College Question

Kevin's cousin's wife is interested in going back to school to get a Billing and Coding, Administration or Transcription degree (associates) from an online only school. She has been looking at Davenport but they said it would cost $28,000 for two years. This sounds ridic to me- U of M was only a little more than that for a Masters. Any suggestions of where to go or where to avoid? TIA!

hmmm, I am going to Davenport for my Master's and I am not paying anywhere near that. Were they giving he some sort of ballpark for housing and stuff that she doesn't need?I take both in-seat and online classes. ORIs she out of state?

I finished my degree through University of Phoenix. I'm not sure if they have the program that she is looking for but I can tell you that I paid roughly $530/credit hour for my (undergrad) classes at UoP. Online is NOT cheap. Can she apply for financial aid?

No she is in state. I thought that sounded crazyass. I wonder if she just talked to a bad recruiter or if it is because they are for profit. She said that was just for the 60 credits.

Holy crap. I cant believe that online classes are that expensive! She is going to apply for that "Mom's going back to school thing" Obama has going on. I dont know what it entails but it sounds like part of it would be paid for.

Baker College has an online program for associates and bachelors degrees, it might be worth checking out? I used to teach a few classes there before I moved from Michigan.

looks like she was quoted right. $469 per credit hour for online. Davenport is also a private school, which costs a bit more than a public university. I guess my Master's doesnt' cost as much since I end up taking less credit hours (39 opposed to her 60). I would agree with other posts and have her look into other schools. A lot of shcools are offering online classes now. http://davenport.edu/Home/FinanceYourEducation/200910TuitionFees/tabid/737/Default.aspx

Baker, Walsh, U-P...A lot of schools have online programs. Just watch what field you are going into and the university you are getting the degree from. A LOT of employers (in certain fields: ie Education) will take someone who has a degree that was not from an online school over someone from an online school.

I would also rec. bakers. My fiance went there for associates, bachelors and is now doing masters. He did his bachelors and is working on his masters online.

Is she going for only associate right now? Did she look into schoolcraft? I did my business associate through there online and it's very affordable.

I think she just wants an associates. I will have her check into Baker.

I go to Baker and I love it.  They are a little pricey, but their financial aid office is great at finding all possible grants, etc.

I went to University of Phoenix (online only) for my MA in Education.  I don't remember exactly what I paid, but it was definitely less than $28,000.  I remember thinking it was really reasonable, but I went to a private school for my BA, so anything would have seemed reasonable compared to that.  I liked UoP a lot and have recommended it to some of my friends and coworkers.

I know Central University has a online program. The HR side of me, make sure it's a school with a good reputation or it will do no good.
