Mexican honeymoon in September?

FI and I are thinking of a honeymoon in Mexico the second week in September 2010. Should we be concerned about hurricanes? Anyone been to Mexico during this time? Also, anyone have suggestions for AI resorts? We were looking at Puerto Vallarta or Cabo, but other places are not yet out the question.

Re: Mexican honeymoon in September?

  • if you are going to mexico during that time, Cabo is your safest best. The weather there is great during that time! Our honeymoon is in cabo in october and we chose that location because we didnt want to risk bad weather. We went with Villa Del Arco in los cabos all inclusive option. It's beautiful - we cant wait!
  • we are taking the risk and going to Riviera Maya the first week in Oct.  we hope to book this weekCan anyone rec hotels?Secrets/ excellence, sandels???Thanks
  • On another post someone suggested the weather channel website. There is a wedding planning feature if you look under Home & Family and it tells you what the weather may be like on your wedding day by looking at previous years. It also has a honeymoon section that lists the best time of the year to go to cetain locations.
  • In the Riviera Maya area, I highly recommend Secrets Maroma Beach.  It is adult-only and all-inclusive.  Great food, service, beach, etc.  Loved it!  Review in my married bio.
  • I'd personally get travel insurance, but not let the thought of hurricanes affect my travels.  You may get perfect weather there, and then get a monsoon in the dry season.  You just never know, so don't plan around what you can't control.
  • I’m not sure how hurricane season is around that part of Mexico but I do know a great all-inclusive in Puerto Vallarta, Dreams Puerto Vallarta. It’s a fantastic, all-inclusive resort located five minutes from downtown Puerto Vallarta on a private beach cove. One of my favorite things about the resort was visiting the shopping district of Malecon, they had so many adorable shops there! I also spent days lounging by the pool while taking advantage of the swim-up bar. You and your hubby can enjoy a meal at any of the five great restaurants or enjoy a night in with 24-hour room service. I hope you enjoy your honeymoon!
  • My husband and I just got back from the Riviera Maya and stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya and it was AMAZING!  The food was great, the beach was beautiful, the staff was great, we're already planning a trip back next May.  We went ahead and got the travel insurance as a precaution b/c July is hurricane season.  So I would definitely recommend it for Sept.
  • the pacific side of mexico's hurricane season goes until oct 15
