Wedding Woes

makeup question

I never really considered having my makeup professionally done for the wedding, but you guys are giving Kuus such a hard time I'm second guessing myself. Is there something I should know? I wear makeup every day and I think I look fine, so why do I have to pay $80 for it on this particular day?

You need a little more definition in the eyes, etc to show up on pictures well.

I wanted it professionally done because I wasn't as good at it as I am not, and there were going to be A LOT of pictures. Worth it to me.

You do need a bit more for the pictures.

Post some pictures of yourself with how you plan on doing your makeup for the wedding, we'll tell you if you should pay to do it or not.  :)At least go to Sephora & let them give you some tips.

    I think it's because I don't wear makeup daily.

I think I look better in our pictures because I don't look washed out. My every day make up would not have lasted as long as having it done professionally, and I'm sure it wouldn't have looked half as good.

Photo makeup is different from daily makeup.  Also, you'll need it to last for some time, which with the  sweating, nerves, and crying that might be going on, will wear your daily look off.

If you look in my b-party album on FB, the pics from either in the limo or in the house are a good general idea of what I'd be doing for the wedding. I'm a little more red than usual in most of them because my forehead got a tiny bit burned on the beach, but otherwise I think that's what i'll look like.

You know, I've been concerned about all of this too.  The thing is, though, that I hate the way I look when other people do my makeup, even professionals.  Hate.  When I do it, I look like a slightly exaggerated version of myself.  When they do it, it looks like they're trying to make my odd features into something closer to the cultural ideal, and IMO it makes me less attractive rather than more.

Hmm, the wearing off is a good point. I look like a beast in the pics taken at the end of the night. I thought about the heavier makeup for pictures, but I don't want to look all cakey in person. I'd rather photoshop out a few blotches than look like I have a centimeter worth of gunk on my face.

Kuus, what odd feature are you talking about? I spent a good 2 hours looking at your face and it's lovely.

Ahh, they're all odd.  Not bad, I don't mean that, but they're just not the cultural standard - I'm decidedly Eastern-European looking.  And when professionals put makeup on me, it always looks like they're trying to make me look more American.

TD-Prof. makeup artists might also have stuff in their kits that would help with wear (most likely) and flash, etc that you won't want to buy for just one day.

Not to mention they can put fake eyelashes on so they don't end up in the middle of your upper eyelid.

Yeah, I have to admit, having someone else do that was a big improvement.

If there's something you don't like about your makeup, you need to tell them.I wanted a very dramatic look.  The first time my lady did it, it was all very natural and neutral.  I said, This is really nice, but I want way more color and pizazz.  So, that's what she did.  Took a few pics of each face and looked at it more when I got home.  USE YOUR WORDS!!!  :)

Okay, I for real never considered fake eyelashes. They always look so, um, fake to me. My goal for the wedding day is to look like me in an ivory dress. Not a better or prettier or faker version of me, just me.

Eyelashes will help with pics. I did NOT want them at all and when I gave in and had them put on, after the initial weirdness, I loved 'em. The pictures of my face they look normal and not all Vegas ShowGirl.

I would wear flase lashed every day of the week, if I could apply them myself. I love them.

I used to actually wear falsies all the time, back in the college days.  But, I was a freaky clubber, so my standard college outfit was probably a bit...different, than the average college student. Then I segued out of it.  Damn you polysci department...DAMN YOU!!!

::silent scream:: false eyelashes don't HAVE to look like that.
