Did you need to take your birth certificate or any kind of documentation to get your marriage license?  And what kind of questions did they ask you... i've heard you have to know where your parents were born.  Anything else?Also - did both you and your then-FI have to go together to get it?And - how long did it take at the prothonotary's office?Thanks so much!!

    yes you need to go together. ours took about twenty minutes but we had to wait for another couple to finish. you do not need your birth certificate, but you do need your social security number. you need to know the state in which your parents were born, addresses, professions, and your mothers maiden name. they ask you if you are intoxicated or have any communicable diseases or are related. you should hopefully answer no to all of these :) if either of you are divorced you will need your divorce decree. and if you are getting married by someone other than a pastor/minister/etc (ex: a friend or family member who is ordained online) you will need to make sure you request a self uniting license. it was pretty painless. and when she made us stand up, raise our right hand, and swear that everything on our license was true and say "i do". i almost fainted because it was SO REAL right in that moment. and im going to email you those recs tonight. im sorry. i was super busy over the weekend with my shower and stuff.

    Nope, didn't bring anything with us. Yep, together to apply but then either of you can pick it up three days later. It really only took us about 10 minutes. They just ask you a bunch of questions and you pay. Easy breezy!

    we didnt have to wait to pick ours up, we got it right then. also, you dont need to get it at the county where you live or where youre getting married. as long as its in PA, you can get it wherever you want. if that helps with your schedule conflicts. the only difference is price.

    Tela - which county are you getting it through? We had to wait 3 days to pick up the document in Lycoming County.

    probably union...  but i didn't think about getting it in a different county.  that would probably be easier because of where i work and because he travels around.  hmmThank you so much, guys! :)

    I don't remember what they take in forms of payment--but we had to write a check and I never write checks...I don't think they take credit/debit cards at all places (or maybe any?), so make sure you bring a few forms of payment to be safe! :)

    oh thats right. i forgot to mention that. in my county the ONLY take cash. no check or credit/debit card. you may want to check on that.

    We got ours in union county & it was very simple.  The lady asked if either of us had been married before, but she didn't ask anything about if we were related, intoxicated, or anything like that.  We didn't have to swear by anything either.  We were in there less than 10 mins.  Here's a site that'll help you out a lil:  http://www.lycomingcountyweddings.com/lisence.html Of course, everything's more expensive in Lewisburg, but it was easiest for us to get it here.  That's how it is for the certified copies of the marriage license too then.  Union county was the most expensive & no one even kept them yet.  SS & the DMV both just looked at it, copied it & gave it back.

    The other ladies summed it up well!!  It was really easy, We were Lycoming county and also had to wait 3 days, Good luck!
