AW purple vintage cake plates! PIP

Ok, I finally splurged.  I've been running around to these second hand stores all over Japan and haven't found anything cheap or purple.  I dont have the time to do this once in Canada, so I finally bit the bullet and just ordered exactly what I wanted online.  I bought 6 plates.  They are purple and vintage!

Now that I've done it, I'm SO SO giddy about my purchases!  I absolutely love my cake plates!  And I did the cake math (see below) and they'll hold enough cake for everyone.  yay!

Of course, I'm going to add a teacups to the bases of the plates and a candlestick or something taller to the 6" plate (top right).  Nothing will be done to raise the largest plate (top left).

Here are the 9.5" plates ($5.00 each!):

And one of my favourite purchases of the day was my 3" cup plate circa. 1980s (like me! and FI! lol).  I'm going to use this little gem to glue our cake topper to.

Seriously, completey in love with my purchases today.  What do you think?

warning!  The following is boring cake math!  Please skip and read the last sentence of this comment!

The 10.5" plate should take a 9" cake,
The two 9.5" plates should take a 8" cake,
The 8" plate should take a 6" cake,
and the 6" plate should take a 4" cake.

According to this website, an 8" pan serves 20 slices, and a 6" pan serves 12 slices.
Maybe I can assume a 9" cake can handle 24 slices... so....

    24 + 20 + 20 + 12  = 76slices!  yay!

But if we happen to have more people, we can just put slightly larger cakes on each plate.
The 10.5" plate should take a 10" cake,
The two 9.5" plates should take a 9" cake,
The 8" plate should take a 7" cake,
and the 6" plate should take a 4" cake.

so the slice math changes to...
    28 + 24 + 24 + 16 = 92

Seems like if we leave a 2" rim on each plate we'll get 76 slices out of the cakes, and if we leave a .5" rim we'll get 92 slices.  These plates will work then.  :)

  • Hi!  My wedding was last Sept, and I put together a stunning collection of mismatched china (dinner, salad, dessert plates) that I now rent out!  I made a facebook page that has pictures from our wedding, and also of the plates.

When you click on each picture it will tell you how many of that particular pattern I have available.  I also have more plates to put up next week when I get back from being out of town so I can take pictures of them.

You can contact me on facebook or email me at katebrenner@gmail.com if you're interested.  :)
