Dress Shopping

So today was my first time dres shopping! I am already feeling a little overwhelmed. Also a bit confused ... I tried on two dresses that were simular to what I thought I wanted .... I liked them but they weren't everything I thought they would be. I tried on another dress that I didn't think I would like at all but I actually liked .... maybe even more than the other two. I know this is just the first trip and I shouldn't worry to much about it.One more thing that was driving me nuts though is white vs. ivory or off white. 4 out of the 5 dresses I tried on were off white and one was white. I always thought I would do a white dress, but I think the off white looked better. How did you decided on this?

In my opinion, unless you have something to compare it to, most people can't tell the difference between off white and white, even ivory sometimes. I would say look for the dress style you really like over color. I think it's normal...I never thought I would buy the dress I did...but I love it!

I took pictures and made sure to make a return trip to try on favorites before deciding. Also if you think off white looks better - go with off white.

I came in with 4 pictures of dresses I loved (online) and left with a completely different dress that I adore. You never know what the dress will look like on you...

It's different for everyone. LOL. I brought in a picture of a dress I liked, tried it on first, bought it that day. Go with the dress you love, worry less about the color. GL!! Try to have TONS of fun with it. I wish I would have tried more dresses on. This is your one and only time to get to do this, enjoy it (as much as you can ;)).

Yes, definitely don't worry too much right now about making a decision. The first couple of trips, I was just trying to figure out what I liked and what looked good on me.As for the white vs. off white: You might be surprised to know that most people go with off white or ivory dresses. White-white dresses look good on very few people's skin tones. There is nothing wrong or less "bridal" about an ivory or off white dress, so if that's what looks better on you, go with that. Also, remember that if you just look at an ivory dress on its own, you can't tell it's not white. Only when you put it next to white-white can you see a subtle difference. This is not something I would worry about too much.

I bought my dress on one trip. It was my first time dress shopping and I just lucked out. I fell in love with the Vivienne Westwood dress that Sarah Jessica Parker wore in the Sex and the CIty movie. I have always wanted a ballroom type dress too. I tried on similar ballroom type dresses like hers...and they all looked awful on me because I didn't have a body like hers.I then tried on some A-line type dresses and they were perfect for my body.Point of the story, just try on a dresses that you normally wouldn't like becase you never know how great they would look on you.

Dress shopping was my favorite part of wedding planning - go try on as many as it takes until one just feels RIGHT! And then try on more, just for fun, if you're like me =)

I had the same experience. The dresses I though I would love, I just sorta liked. The dresses that I thought I would not like at all, I ended up loving. I actually ended up buying a dress that was strapless, which I never thought I would do! I ended up with an ivory dress because white looked too stark against my skin because I am so white with no tan at all. Good luck with shopping and just have fun! Pick one you feel great in and try on every style!
