Vendor Reviews

Wedding Date: July 18th, 2009Cake: Shorty's Cakes n Bakes: A+Her prices are reasonable, her customer service is top of the line, and the final product was elegant and delicious.Videographer: Andy Owen/Owen Video: A++I loved Andy, and recommend him to everyone.  We haven't received our final product yet, but the video trailer he sent us is awesome.  He was there to capture every event, and even stayed longer than the photographer! His price is unbelievable. He is very professional, and just a genuine guy.Ceremony: 1st Presbyterian Church: AWe used an associate pastor from the church, since he was the one who baptized me as a child, but they have a great staff.  Being a non-member, there are costs associated with the use of the church, but the building itself was so beautiful, we didn't really even need to add any decorations.  We got married in the sanctuary, but you also have the option of marrying in the chapel.  We needed the sanctuary for the number of guests.Organist: Sergei KvitkoSergei is the church's organist, but really is so much more than that.  He is a classically trained musician, and even has an Academy Award. Yes, an Academy Award.  Although he can be tough to get ahold of at times with his busy schedule, he worked with me to pick out the ceremony choices -- even when they weren't in his taste.  Together we created a cohesive blend of classic and nontraditional music for the ceremony.Reception: Lansing Center: AKate Linske, one of the catering assistants, is awesome.  I really came to enjoy working with her.  She is very professional, yet fun, and was always quick to respond to questions.  We demanded some negotiating on certain points, and were able to come to a resolution or compromise on every point.  Kyrie Elloitt, the event coordinator, and Kate L. were there for most of the reception, and made sure everything went smoothly.  I even requested a change in the floor plan on the Thursday prior to the wedding (after seeing the room all set up) and it was promptly changed by the next day.The food was amazing. Our guests complimented on how hot and fresh it was (which is hard to do for a 260-person wedding).  At the tasting, when we weren't sold on a second entree, the chef talked with us and came up with an idea that was not on the menu, and it was amazing.Photographer: Doug Elbinger: ___I haven't seen the pictures yet, but he has a longstanding and good reputation in the Lansing area. He is $$$, but it was something my mother insisted upon. I should have the pictures by the end of the week, and I am confidant that he and his assistant got some great shots.  I would highly recommend a must-have photo list to give him though. Everything gets so hectic the day of, that it is easy to forget about certain photos you want.Flowers: Addy's Floral: A+Shirley is the owner, and she was a joy to work with. She spent a lot of time creating just the bouquets I had envisioned.  We used gerbera daisies and roses mainly.  They were even more gorgeous in real life. I couldn't have been happier. I highly recommend Addys!Additional Design: Weddings By Nicole: AWe wanted a few extra things that our package with the Lansing Center did not include, so we went to Nicole.  In her showroom with an assistant of hers, we came up the perfect accents to pull the reception together and make it uniquely our style.  My only suggestion would be to carefully look over your invoice/design sheet before signing it to make sure everything is correct and all discounts are added. This is good advice for every contract though!DJ: W.E.D. Matt Schultheiss: AMatt & his wife Lynn were great to work with. Lynn was very quick to respond to any emails or phone calls. She is really good with the customer service aspect, and offered so much great advice that she was not obligated to offer.  They offer design services and wedding planning, but by the time we signed on with them, I had the other parts figured out. Matt was a good choice for us.  We did not want a loud or cheesy DJ.  Our friends and family like to dance, so we needed a DJ who would listen to our requests (to play and NOT play), and keep people on the dance floor.  There was only one instance when two song choices in a row were not crowd-pleasers, but he quickly became aware of it & changed the music.  From that moment on, the dance floor was packed.  They didn't leave the dance floor until the lights came on at the very end of the night.  We gave him an extensive Do Not Play list and a list of artists and particular songs that we knew our guests would like to hear.  He stuck to that mostly, and obviously, it worked like a charm.  I was Very Happy with their services and highly recommend them.  You can't beat the price or service.Hotels: Radisson Hotel: AKate Venn was awesome to work with.  Hotel rooms in our block were renovated and clean.  Guests were all happy. The bridal suite was perfect! Courtyard by Marriott: BIn comparison to the Radisson, they were hard to get a hold of.  We didn't have much interaction with them.  Since our reception was at the Lansing Center, only one guest chose to stay at Courtyard.  The rest stayed at the Radisson because it is connected to the LC. I'm sure I'm missing some, but I think that will do for now! Hope this helps!

I second the musician choice on Sergei Kvitko! We were in music school together and he was well known back then too! He also runs a music production/recording studio called Blue Griffin records in case any of you are aspiring recording artists or need a demo CD for auditions, that sort of thing.
