Today is my Friday...

because tomorrow we leave to move FI out to Texas! We have about a 16 hour drive ahead of us but it should be pretty easy. We're going to have a full weekend of house hunting, eating some good seafood, and the beach! I really hope we find a house we like :)I have to come back to Phoenix on Monday, boo! :(

    Wow...thank goodness men don't need a lot, right? Have a safe trip and GL finding a house! So will he just stay at a hotel in the mean time?

    Yeah he is staying at an extended stay hotel, it's pretty no frills but it has a kitchen and he got a good deal on it (some special they were running). Hopefully he won't need to be there TOO long.

    Oh, that's good he'll have a kitchen and all. I was just thinking that living out of a hotel could get pretty pricey....I don't know how people deal with relocating and the timing of everything. I imagine it could get pretty tricky. Sounds like you guys have a plan though!

    Kim, it definitely has been a project figuring out his short term housing. One of the benefits at his new university is that they assign you a relocation specialist to assist with moving - problem is, the people don't listen AT ALL and they come up with really expensive options. The short term housing she came up with cost over $3,000 a month for a 1-bedroom apt. SERIOUSLY? Who is going to pay that?! And when Sean said something like "well this really isn't what I'm looking for, it's more than I can afford, etc" she got all snotty and said "yes, well short term housing is expensive." Um, it doesn't have to be THAT much!Her real estate agent called once, said she would send listings, then we never heard from her again. 2 movers have come to take estimates, but we haven't gotten any figures. All they've done so far is waste our time, I've gotten a lot more accomplished just by doing internet searches.UGH, sorry to go off like that! I will be very happy when this all over and we can get settled.

    Wow, over $3000 for a 1 BR? That is insane!! We pay around $1040 for the same here in the DC area!

    Yeah they totally jack the rates up because it is a short-term relocation rental. The same apt would normally be I don't know, $600 a month? It's stupid. Sort of like how certain things get more expensive when you attach the word "wedding" to it!
