alcohol on tables...vodka!

I'm having a hard time to find a venue that allows alcohol on tables, specifically vodka.  Any ideas?  Its important to my Russian Groom for toasts. (multiple).  Help!

could you have the staff serve it in shot glasses?  Kind of like champagne where they pass it?

I know that Lake Lyndsay lets you serve your own alcohol and bring in your own caterer - pretty much you just rent the space and take care of all the details yourself. I've also seen a Russian wedding where they have an Vodka Ice Luge - it was fun for all the guests! That way not all the guests have to take a shot - just the fun ones! I could imagine that to be pricey though - but it's an option! HTH!

lake lyndsay does allow you to bring your own alcohol, but you can't have bottles of liquor sitting on the guest tables (don't know why, it's weird, but it's in their rules though).

Gotta be carefull having that sit on the tables. Especially if you have kids at the wedding. You know people don't watch kids as closely when they're at weddings. I've heard of kids getting glasses of wine and getting really sick.

wow, the vodka luge sounds incredible...I have suggested having the shots prepoured and served, and some place say no to that still.  There are some places that said yes though, but for an extra charge of course...  ITs called bar butler service, and they have to be served in sherry glasses, not shot glasses.I still like the ice scupture luge for vodka though.  do you know where that wedding was?

Hello, fellow Russian wedding person! I had the same issue and ended up forgoing hard liquor on the tables. We were allowed to place wine on the tables so we'll have at least something to toast with. I think we might have been able to get the hard liquor on the tables, but it would have cost something like $100 per bottle which, I think, is absolutely insane. My venue is the Phoenix. I just really liked the room and heard good things about their food and service so we made the sacrifice of vodka (and cognac) on the tables. Also, I heard from a DJ at one bridal show that they did a Russian wedding at the Newport Syndicate and there was vodka on the tables. So that might be worth checking out. It seems that venues in Cincinnati are just too worried about the liability of having hard liquor on the tables because they can't gauge alcohol consumption and make sure no one drinks too much and also make sure that children don't drink. It's understandable but it sucks to be Russian in Cincinnati when you're trying to plan a wedding. Many venues thought I was crazy for asking about having alcohol on tables and one lady was downright mean to me saying, "This may be ok in your country, but we don't do that here." I'd imagine bigger cities with more diverse populations have more options for multicultural weddings and greater sensitivity and respect for the traditions of other cultures. I don't know if my Russian guests will fully understand the situation or if they will be offended at having to get up and go to the bar, but we will see. Good luck in your search!

I'd try the Syndicate, as PP suggested.  They were really willing to work with me on everything.  PIB if you're interested.

IG muse!Thank you so much for your insight!  This is getting fustrating.  IT even more frustrating when the theme of the wedding is russian too.  I actually did go to the phoenix, and They were extremely accomodating.  The lady said that they would be able to do it for a price, but my fiance Oleg doen't like the place for some strange reason. So the closest i've gotten is the cincinnati club-which will serve "toasts" all night as a bar service.  Oleg also doesnt want his guests to get up for food or drink.  The cincinnati club said they will let you leave a bottle of wine on the table at a guests request. bad thing is all alcohol here is by consumtion, scary for russians! The other place was the hilton netherland continental room.  Only vodka "toasts" available prepoured and served to each table.when are you getting married?  sounds like we need to chat!  I'm having problems finding a caterer that will do family style and authentic russian food!

My wedding is on April 17, 2010. If you have any questions for me, e-mail me at Hi_to_IG at yahoo dot com. You might be able to get a "regular" caterer or your venue to serve Russian food you bring in. There's a German restaurant run by Russian people (I think they're from the Baltic region but they speak Russian) who I'd guess can cook Russian food too. It's called Silver Fork or Oleg's Tavern, not sure which one because it got renamed. It's on Montgomery Road. They could prepare appetizers or salads to place on the tables, but I'd have your "regular" caterer do the entree. There's also Marina's International Deli. You can have Marina cook some Russian dishes and have your caterer serve them. There are other options but I just don't know all the Russian people who cater Russian parties in town because I don't attend those events and don't have any Russian friends. If your fiance is local I'm sure he's heard of Marina, at least. Has he asked around the Russian community? You might also be able to provide Russian recipes to a "regular" caterer and have them prepare the dishes. When I was looking around at caterers I got the impression that most were willing to do that. And there's always the Franco-Russian favorite, Chicken Kiev. I'm sure most caterers can do that. I think the truth is, if you pay them enough, they'll gladly cook anything because, really, why not? Good luck, hope I helped. : )
