DIY Flowers!?

Did anyone do their flowers themselves or are you going to do them yourself? If so, where did you get your flowers & what were some challenges you faced!? Any tips would help!! TIA!

I am planning to DIY my flowers. I have looked at a couple online places and it seems that Sam's Club is the cheapest (but you have to be a member). I actually am going to buy some flowers this weekend and make a bouquet to see how it turns out before I fully commit to the idea but I'm pretty crafty so I think I'll be ok.I've basically looked online and on the DIY board for how-to instructions which have been helpful.

I am planning on DIY my flowers... but I will also be using a lot of feathers as well, so I can do those before hand. I will probably buy the flowers online with fiftyflowers.com or something of the sort.

We didn't actually do it, but we thought about it.  Some of the things that made me not want to do it were: Are you using flower centerpieces... if yes, will you have time to make them all in the last few days?  Who will deliver them? (you'll need a substantially sized vehicle if there are a lot of CP's)Does someone have that big of a vehicle?  Who will pick everything up?  What is the cost of the vases or containers?  In the end, I decided that what I wanted wouldn't be that much cheaper if we did it ourselves, and it would be a lot less stress on me in the last week of planning.

I am doing my flowers and I dont foresee any problems. As simple as my arrangements are going to be I've collected info from the library on how to preserve them in addition to a few other things. Getting my flowers from Costco, very CHEAP!!. I met with a few florist to see what the arrangements entailed and decided that I could do just as a good at a fraction of the cost. 1st Tip: Keep it simple 2nd:Try not to use too many diff blooms until you are super creative 3rd: Look at floral arrangements and what they entail 4th: The library has tons of books that gives you step by step detail on how to do arrangements. 5th Start buying all the things you'll need for your arrangements. My List includes Pins for Bouts Ribbons for the Bouquet Tall and Short Eifle tower vases for my center pieces I'm using two diff color Calla Lilly for my Bouquets. Yellow and White. If you need to find out anything else feel free to page me. Its really very easy to do DIY Flowers and it can save you a lot of money

Money was def. the biggest factor on why I decided to look into it. I will be spending about $500 for everything from flowers to vases to pins for:My bouquet, 4 BM bouquets, 9 Bouts, 2 corsages, and 16 centerpieces.  Of course I also have a huge family who is extremely willing to help out with getting things set up, etc.

I did my own flowers and I have some info along with pictures of what they looked like when delivered in my bio. I got them from Costco, which saved me TONS of money. They arrived the morning that they were supposed to. One important thing is if you are making bouquets and CPs, make sure you have all your other stuff pretty much done in the couple days before the wedding, because it's kind of a big project to find a place for all the flowers, not to mention putting them together and everything. Mine were easier IMO because they were all the same flower, all calla lillies. It's much easier to arrange and make CPs when you're using all the same flower. I did this for a friend's wedding too, it's super simple. Also I would recommend making sure you order them early enough to give them time to open up, I had mine delivered the Wednesday before the wedding and they didn't really open up as much as I would have liked. About the Monday after the wedding they were perfect. It could be just the type of flower though.

I'll be doing my own CPs- 2-5 milk glass vases at some tables, milk glass bowls with hostas and a couple of bud vases at a couple of tables, and decoupaged cylinder vases with pillar candles in them and a couple of bud vases at the rest. I'm still considering if I'm going to use a mix of flowers in each vase, or a single type... not sure yet! I DO know that I'm mixing small blooms like sweetheart roses with huge ones like lilies (the bigger the bloom, the less flowers you'll need!) I'm getting all of my vases at garage sales and thrift stores, and I've priced out the flowers (rounding up) so I think each CP will cost me around $8-15 I'm still considering making the bouts/ bouquets/ corsages myself but I'm a little nervous about it- I'm going to practice a little, but I might just have a florist make them... (And I'm getting our flowers online most likely, but I'm trying to find a local grower)
