We were able to get our price per head down (GO MOBZILLA!!) giving us more options. We originally were going to serve sea bass or filet (and also a veggie option) but now the duo plate option is within our budget.  If you were a guest, what would you prefer... Selecting your meal with your RSVP for the invite of either fish or filet OR arriving at the wedding and having a duo plate with crab stuffed shrimp and filet on the same plate (or veggie option available too) H-E-L-P. THANK YOU LOVES.

    I went BACK & FORTH on this too!!! I ended up deciding to give people the option... Ideally, I would love if they could pick at the wedding but I thought that was take too long. They're both great choices, but I think having people pick is a bit nicer? But either way you're golden!

    no offense to anyone who has dinner choices on their RSVP, but I dont like it. I think the invite looks classier w/o the option (JMO). I would go with arriving at the wedding and being served a duo plate.

    I personally would loved to be served the duo plate, however because food allergies are so common, especially shell fish allergies, your safest bet might be to give the option. HTH.

    i'd definitely give guests the option... what if they prefer one over the other?

    Personally, I'd rather pick ahead of time, BUT I am allergic to shellfish and can't have it on the same plate as anything else, so that might be swaying my input ;-)

    I prefer the option b/c I'm not a fan of fish. That said the duo plate you have I WOULD like b/c I do like Shell Fish and crab stuffed shrimp sounds yummy. Tough one.I am stressing over this same issue. The duo plate is more expensive (like $10 more  pp) so I'm probably going to go with giving guests the option but I'm not 100% sure. Sigh... .

    THis is a toss up. I agree 110% with Vicki. My parents said they would've died before putting the option on our invites. We have 7 (yes, 7) total dinner options, so putting that on our invite is totally out of the question. Our guests will have the choice to pick at the wedding and servers will take their order. Is this an option for your venue at all?If not, I'd say just put the option on the menu. It is the safest bet for people with allergies, etc. Just my 0.02 :o)

    TTC since May 2011 "Natural" BFP 1/2/2012 with cp 1/5/2012 5/2012: SA and CD 3 bloodwork perfect 6/2012: Clomid + Trigger + TI = BFN 8/2012: HSG all clear.     Personally, I would probably go for the duo plate. But FI hates fish and wouldn't be too happy if it was on his plate, so I would go for the duo plate unless you think you have picky people or people with allergies like the other posters said.

    I agree I would MUCH rather NOT have our selection on the invite... but tableside service is more. Maybe I can get mobzilla to reduce the tableside selection cost? oh boy, back to the drawing board!

    Duo plate for sure! If they dont like either seafood or filet, they can always have veggies. They're bound to like one or the other anyways.And if they love both seafood or filet (as I do) then they're in for a real treat by getting both instead of one or the other!

    We're looking at the same thing now also, and although I like the idea of duo plate, we're looking at filet and something else and my concern is for people who don't eat or don't like one of the options, less food for them, or people start swapping food on their plates.... I'm thinking I'm going to deal with it and put the choice with the invte

    I would much rather have a duo plate. I think that it is logistically easier and most ppl eat meat, if they dont because of a health condition, they will call the venue ahead of time.

    Lis, not sure about your venue but in addition to tableside service being more expensive at mine, she also said it slows down the dinner service significantly which cuts into the time for dancing and all that.Not sure if that's BS and I also agree that I was uncertain about having the selection on the RSVP but I don't think I have an option.

    I think you should definitely see if she can get table side down. My parents were also against having the choices on the rsvp card. The duo plate sounds fantastic but, people have so many allergies and dislikes now a days you never know.

    jaime!! on the upside of table service... you know dinner will not be rushed! this is one of my fears: dinner being served wayyyy too fast.

    I did table service and we had 100 ppl. It didnt cut into any dance time. Your MC will keep the party moving. PPL were probably placing orders the second they got in and then we did the intros and ppl probably ordered while Adam and I danced. I never noticed ppl ordering at all and everyone danced before and after dinner. Some ppl danced during dinner if they heard a slow song they liked!

    I would prefer the duo plate simply because it simplifies things.  I hear that giving guests an option causes more work on the brides part, extra paper and printing with invites, and additional work for your venue.  I've heard from brides that they wished they hadn't given their guests the option.

    As someone who is highly allergic to shellfish, I'd be wary of doing the duo. The reason being that many times when I've been served a pre-plated meal and tell them I'm allergic, all they do is take the shrimp off the plate. And then I've still had a reaction because it came into contact with other stuff on the plate.

    We did a salmon/filet duo and it turned out really well. We identified special meals/veggies ahead of time. I only heard of one person who was allergic to fish who got a fresh plate. I'm personally allergic to shellfish so I would just ask for a different plate, no biggie. I've never had to RSVP with menu choice before... how do you keep track of it so everyone gets the proper meal?

    Ok tree hugger statement is going to follow.....Sea bass is an overfished fish and really should be avoided.  If you care about being PC with your guests, it probably shouldn't be on your menu - another one is Swordfish.So, with that being said, I would go with the duo (which sounds better to me anyway).And remember, I live in CA - where people do judge you on this stuff.

    Lis, you know how i feel :) :::agrees with Vicki::: ALTHOUGH, jaime has a great point. and i also heard horror stories about my venue having this problem. But i love love love giving people the option when they get there. ps - sorry i didnt talk to you at all today. i had a really bad day and this is my first time online. 143
