**rhodesign and any other knotties who have visited vegas***

FI and I are headed out to vegas in a couple of weeks for vacation.  What hotels would you recommend?  Right now we are considering the Venetian and MGM Grand.  What nightlife, Restaurants and Spas would you recommend?  Thanks in advance for any recommendations

    VEGAS!!!!! Love it!Okay, so here's the scoop--Go with what's cheapest. For real. You're never in your room anyway! Now, this comes with stipulations:on the strip--stay north of the downtown (I think it's north). Some good ones that aren't too expensive are MGM, NYNY, Monte Carlo, Mirage, Paris and Treasure Island. Mid-range (closer to cheap) hotels in the middle of the strip that aren't too bad are Bally's, Imperial Palace and Harrah's. I'd avoid the Flamingo because it smells odd. That's where I'd stay if you're not looking to spend a ton of money.I stayed off the strip last time at The Orleans. It's a really nice hotel with a movie theater and a bowling alley! What's great is that it's nice, it's cheap (like, even the booze at the hotel and the restaurants/buffet are cheap) AND they have shuttles to the middle of the strip (right in front of Bally's) every 15 minutes. So you can still spend all day on the strip going up and down, but have a shuttle back to your hotel for free. That comes highly recommended from me!Things to do--(paying)There are a gozillion nightclubs and restaurants. Take your pick. If you want to go to a show, sometimes you can get cheaper day-of tickets. Any of the Cirque du Soleil shows are good--O is supposed to be spectacular and is underwater (or something like that!)Gambling! Imperial Palace has 'dealertainers'--they're dressed as celebrity impersonators, and they perform! Lots of fun to gamble at (blackjack and roulette). Cheap tables can be found at Billy's (used to be the Barbary Coast) and O'Sheas and can be fun to play at.Free things to do:Go to Freemont street (downtown 'dirty' vegas!) at night and see the laser light show under the canopy and check out some of the old school casinos (4 queens has a gorgeous ceiling!). On the strip, go to the top of the eiffel tower at the Paris and watch the fountain show at the Bellagio across the street.There are other shows outside other hotels--Treasure Island has a Pirate Show, and I think there's something at Ceasar'sGo to the botannical garden inside the BellagioCheck out the trick bartenders at festival court next to Harrah's. They flip bottles around ala "Cocktail" and there is usually live bands.Well that's all I got for now! Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any questions! =)

    ooh, I forgot to add-never pay full price for club admission.All along the strip there are dudes giving out free passes for just about every club in Vegas. They'll pitch to you "want club passes? VIP entrance?" and you just go up to them and see what they have. You don't buy them from them (that's not allowed, don't let them tell you otherwise) but it's polite to give them a little tip--2 or 3 bucks is fine. Do not confuse them with the rows and rows of folks snapping cards and trying to shove them into your hands--those are escort cards with nekkid chicks on them. fun to collect for the sheer kitsch factor, but useless otherwise. Unless you're into that kinda thing...=)Voodoo lounge is one of my favorite bars. It's on the rooftop of the Rio, and I don't believe there's a cover, esp. if you go early (which you should to avoid crowded lines). It has a good DJ and gorgeous views of the strip. Ghost Bar is okay, but it's in the Palms and they act better than everybody else there.BUFFETS!!! A must! The best is the champagne brunch at Paris. A little pricier than most, but well worth it. The brunch at any hotel you're staying at will be good too, but that one's worth an extra effort.Have fun! We're planning on going for 2 days as part of our honeymoon!
