What's your wedding "style"? And how do you know?

So I heard back from the florist I emailed yesterday and her first question was what is the style and formality of the wedding.  I read it and was like "Uhhhh....style?  Um white dress?"I took the quiz here on TheKnot and it says "Casually Elegant" but I would never in any way describe myself as elegant and probably can't keep a straight face when saying "Our wedding is casually elegant".  Did anyone else get asked the wedding style? And if so, did you use what TheKnot quiz said?(Apparently I'm utterly clueless)

Re: What's your wedding "style"? And how do you know?

  • I have no idea, but in my initial conversations with my mother, she was talking about some thing or another that is "done" at weddings. I said to her, "Oh, I don't remember doing that at cousin's wedding."Her reply: "Well, her wedding was much more casual than yours." Keep in mind that this was a week or two after engagement, and no plans had been (or yet have been) made. So, according to my mother, I am apparently having a somewhat formal-ish wedding. In her mind.

  • Our overall style is vintage glam... elegant. Hmm. I have never been asked my anyone though!

  • I'm clueless as to my personal style, let alone my wedding style.
  • Maybe by style she meant Traditional or Modern? Not sure, I would ask her to clarify.

  • Our overall style is vintage glam... elegant.Hahaha. That's exactly what my sister said about ours!
  • I took the quiz and it told me my style was Formally Unrefined.
  • Unfortunately, being in graduate school has made me unable to describe anything in a simple manner, so when anyone asks me about my wedding style, I start rambling about the Gilded Age and India and 40-foot high elephants. I need to do something about this... perhaps the Knot quiz will clear things up for me.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • Apparently, I am a "City Girl", whatever that means. Okay then. Gilded Age it is.

  • I got asked yesterday how I wanted my ceremony to go. Ummmm....smoothly? Beyond that I'd out of ideas
  • Sarah, is your wedding going to have 40foot high elephants at it?  Because if so, double thumbs up!I've figured out from reading over the attire section of my planning book that for formality we are probably in the arena of Semi-Formal.  Doesn't solve the style problem. Or find me a nice pretty way to tell a florist that I don't want a lot of flowers....
  • I may, in fact, be getting married inside an elephant...

  • My dress has a Jane Austen feel to it, so I think I'm basing things on a Classical Regency style.Though I know in the end it's going to be Controlled Chaos.
  • There's a knot quiz to help us figure this out? Who knew! I tend to avoid the rest of the website. No one's asked me, but I'd say we're going for a "back to nature casual party." Can you tell we're hippies?

  • Ok glad to know I'm not the only one who didn't have some set in stone style for their wedding.  My official wedding style is "Simple".
  • According to the quiz I'm also "casually elegant." That title is barf inducing, even though the little description does fit what we're going for.

  • Vegas.... LOL.Simple and fairly casual.  Not wearing a "traditional" wedding dress, no tuxes, no wedding party. We do have a "ring holder" who will bring us our rings when we're ready and we have witnesses to sign our marriage license.  We sent out 31 invitations and will probably have 12 -15 people there.  And yes, it is in Vegas - at the Luxor. Biggest stress has been waiting for the money to accumulate to book flights, and for the RSVPs to come in.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
