Westin La Cantera or Hyatt Country Hill?

Hi Ladies,I'm trying to plan my 2011 Destination Wedding while trying to "think outside the box.” Instead of doing the typical Caribbean resort or other common island destinations.  I’m thinking of exciting places right here in the United States that most likely my guests have never been; never would think to go to but are actually really great destinations with beautiful resorts.   I’ve been looking in Scottsdale, AZ; Destin FL; Catalina Islands CA; and now San Antonia, TX.  I started to consider San Antonio after seeing doing a search for Luxury US resorts and I found the Hyatt Country Hill.  I’ve already e-mailed them for information on their wedding packages (I’m planning from NYC).  Having never been to San Antonio before; I was hoping to get some advice from the local ladies.  I love the resort (via their websites LOL) and have also found the Westin La Cantera to be really nice as well.  Is one better than the other?? Will both be close to outside activities?? I want to find a resort that has enough to do (pools; water activities; close to area attractions) so that my guests don’t feel bored and wonder why on earth did she pick this place!    I appreciate any honest reviews you ladies have on either properties-and if you feel there’s a better resort-any suggestions??  THANKS SO MUCH!!   Happy Planning!

I don't know if one is better than the other because I don't have much experience at either place.  The Hyatt is close to Sea World and La Cantera is close to Six Flags, both really fun amusement parks!  However, it looks like your wedding is in October and I don't know if either of those places are still open then.

I don't know much about those resorts (other than they were out of my budget, lol), but I will say, you don't come to San Antonio to hang out at a resort. I'm sure they have wonderful pools and all, but its no beach. Your guests will want to see the Alamo and the riverwalk, which aren't particularly close, but certainly within reason. They will want to go to Seaworld and Six Flags (open Fri-Sun in Oct.) San Antonio is a great place to come visit with tons to do, I'm just not sure its the right place for you if you are looking for a resort-type experience.

Hi NYC bride, I am having my reception at La Cantera in April. It is beautiful! I don't know what type of guests you will have, but many of the guys coming to my wedding are really excited about the golf course at La Cantera. Both of these resorts will be nice for what you are looking for I think. Hill Country Hyatt is more on the rustic side, which might be a Texas feel you are looking for. They both have nice pools and lazy rivers. In my opinion, they are both are close to plenty of things to do. Sea World is easily accessible to both, so is Fiesta Texas. Downtown San Antonio is about 15 miles from La Cantera and might be a fun trolley or chartered bus excursion. If you have any specific questions let me know. You can email me at charlottecoffey@hotmail.com. Good luck!!

I haven't really been to the Westin La Cantera but it is a beautiful site. The one thing that is also nice is how close it is to Fiesta Texas and the Shops at La Cantera. The only things you may find unattractive about the location are it's closeness to I-10 (but it is a good way to get downtown fast) and it's near UTSA. I doubt you'd have much to deal with aside from the fireworks at Fiesta Texas around 10 PM if they still do that in the fall. The Hill Country Hyatt is a place I've been to a couple times and it is what I would call secluded high class country living. It has a nice view and is pretty quiet. The food is okay but I would like to think they fixed it up more than when I went there nearly 15 years ago. They have a really nice ballroom there and the service was good. Probably the one con to the place is if you wanted to take a tour of downtown it is a drive compared to Westin La Cantera. What I would suggest is sort of making a mock intinerary for what you'd want to do then sort of compare where these places are to where the resorts are. That might sway you far more than what we give as reviews. Both places are highly recommended. It comes down to a matter of taste.

I don't think either of those hotels would be good for a destination wedding. They are both far from downtown, which is the main reason people would come to San Antonio. For a resort feel, try www.horseshoebaymarriott.com. They have pools, hot tubs, watersports, and everything you're looking for.

I use to work at they Hyatt Hill Country and they will cater to your every need. They seriously bend over backwards to make sure you have everything that you want. October is a good time because its nice and quite and it is the down season. Its pretty secluded and several guest are actual San Antonio residents just wanting to "get-away". While working there I had several guest complain about the Westins customer service. It is still fairly warm in October, and the pools are open year around along with the golf course. Dont be afaid to voice you expectaions, because like I said they will be met. Good luck!
