the madison hotel

So, I think I've narrowed down my venue search to the Madison Hotel, in the conservatory. Before I put down a deposit is there anyone whose had or been to a wedding in the conservatory here... good and bad reviews welcome. TIA

i look there too, but we decided to have our wedding elsewhere (found someplace we liked more and i really just couldn't stand the man we met with at the madison). i heard mostly good things, except that the acoustics aren't the best. but it truly is a beautiful roomthe one nice thing is they were really willing to negotiate, so make sure you get a lower price than what they ask for.goodluck!

We looked there. We thought it was nice, but the hotel got mixed reviews on line. Also, we were not happy that we waited 45 minutes for the person to show up for our appointment, but he never showed up!!!! Some random employee showed up around, but since he was not that familiar with the weddings he could not answer any of our questions. Also, there price for day wedding was a little high.

i looked there, always liking that ad you see in every magazine.  however when i visited i wasn't as impressed.  we went during a bridal show and the food was awful.  i didn't like how there was only one bathroom and it was the main hotel lobby one, also the one the ballroom uses, and there could be two events happening at once.  i also was worried about acoustics in that glass room, and DH & i are huge music people.  i don't care what anyone tells you, a glass room is not ideal for great sound.  regardless, it was really ruled out all together bc it was too far from our church.  it's a beautiful room however and unique and that is still what draws me to it.  the food thing could have been a fluke, who knows what they can have now.

I looked there too...then I asked the girls on here, it didn't get great reviews.  I went back a 2nd time with FI, and he thought the windows were dirty, the chairs needed to be painted, we didn't love the CH room, and you can hear the cars from the road. Do you have any other places in mind?  I fell in love with it the first time I saw it, but after my 3rd trip, I changed my mind.

I'm actually getting married there in January so obviously my opinion is pretty biased (with all the options out there I wouldn't have booked it if it I didn't think it was great) but there were some conveniences that the hotel offered us that were really important b/c we'll have tons of out of town guests who will be flying in and probably making a mini vacation of the wedding weekend (being close to EWR and the fact that the NJT station is less than a block away were huge pluses for us). I also went to undergrad down the block so the location was sentimental to me. Overall I think the conservatory is one of the most beautiful places for an indoor ceremony. (p.s. There actually are a different set of bathrooms in the cocktail hour room, if that's important to you... the ones off the conservatory are pretty ugly in all honesty!). I don't think the chairs in the conservatory are very nice for a night time wedding. I live out of state but just went to the Madison on Monday to check it out again before putting money towards chair covers and, well, I think it will be money well spent b/c they look like garden furniture at the moment (they're fine for a day time wedding). I haven't heard anything about the acoustics being problematic but I've hired a DJ who is v. familiar with the place so hopefully, if there is a general problem, he'll know how to work with it. I myself haven't eaten there (I have eaten at the steak house attached to it which is pretty awesome) but from the people I know who have been to weddings there and the reviews that I've found, everyone raves about the food! I was actually really shocked by the post that said it was horrible b/c that's the one thing that I feel like I've heard people say over and over (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was just a fluke and that generally the food is above average). Finally, I've also heard that the staff are hit or miss. I've been so lucky - we've been in contact with Tim only (I keep seeing mention of Carlos, Glenn and Oscar in reviews but in all my planning haven't been introduced to them) and he's been great so far.

The location is beautiful. My cousin got married there.  The only problem with the conservatory is that they say it can fit 150 my cousin had like 143 she keeps telling me I have no idea how they would fit anyone else.  So keep that in mind if you are not sure how many people  you will have.
