Target registry

So my primary registry is BBB.  My family "up north" has a target nearby but no BBB. What do I register for at target?

Re: Target registry

  • We got a vaccum, a couple extra pans, a few kitchen cooking things, table cloth, napkins, shower curtain... We just price shopped online and got whatever we needed at the cheaper of the two. The things that were equal, we got at BBB because they have a much better return policy.

  • I'm sending you a FB message
  • Basics.  Very simple stuff.  Glass mixing bowls, simple baking utensils, cooking utensils, BBQ utensils, basic appliances (griddle, blender, Foreman grill), stuff like that.  If you want something higher end in any of these categories, go with BBB.  If you just want basic cooking/baking tools, go with Target.  I'd probably stick with their kitchen stuff, and stay away from their towels and bedding b/c I want nicer ones than what we already have, but that's just me.
  • FWIW, I've heard terrible things about Target registries re: their return policy, etc.  I also tried to buy something off a baby registry there and it was a nightmare--they had maybe one of the things on the list in the store and that was it.  I'd look into other stores if possible.

  • Have you considered an Amazon registry?  If your family is computer-literate, they can get almost all the stuff from Target online via Amazon.  And the Amazon registry also allows you to add stuff from ANY online site.  And it seems to be rather more organized than the Target registry, in terms of keeping track of who bought what.As for what to put on it, it depends on what you want.  We have a mixer, a food processor, an immersion blender, a coffee grinder, a sewing machine, a circular saw, a bed, a convection oven, and a whole bunch of other stuff on ours.
  • Yeah, not so much with the computer literacy.

  • My sympathies!  In that case, you just have to stress to them that they really need to give you the gift receipt.  Otherwise, you won't even be able to exchange defective items or duplicates.
  • Only things you don't mind getting doubles of.  We got towels there (you can never have to many towels :) ) and a few other small things.  Almost every thing we got from target we got doubles of.  Luckily, they all had gift receipts, so we had no problem returning them (although they would only give us a target gift card with a gift receipt, no cash), but even though they have a "new" return policy, they will not accept returns without receipts, at least in my experience.  I don't see what's new about it.

  • FWIW, in my experience, the reason a lot of people get duplicates is because it takes at least 24 hours for them to electronically update the registry.  So if anyone shops within a day or so of the wedding (lets be honest, lots of people do this) 6 people could have bought the same pan  (theoretically) and it won't show up as purchased.

  • I am registered at Target and so far haven't had issues. But I haven't had to return anything, either. Won't they at least take things back for store credit? I swear I've returned other stuff at Target before and it was no big deal. If I got store credit, I'd buy some of the crap off my registry that I wanted...so no problem there. We registered there for most of our basic stuff...kitchen appliances, mixing bowls, vacuum, silverware, etc. We also registered for a few board games, a fire pit, a bean bag toss set, and some other misc fun stuff. Also sheets, down comforter...a lot of stuff! We registered for our more fancy things, such as our dish sets, towels, serving dishes, and duvet cover at BBB. I thought since Target is cheaper, we'd get more stuff from there, but most of what I got at my shower was from BBB. I guess my guests like to spend more money, lol. Not that I'm complaining : )

  • We returned most of our Target stuff so that we could re buy it down here and save ourselves shipping.  My mom took the stuff back and had no problem getting a gift card without gift receipts.  They recently changed their return policy and we had no problems. We did most of our stuff at BBB but then registered for other odds and ends at Target:  vacuum, iron, non stick pans, humidifier, pillows, etc.

  • Target is also good for recreational stuff: board games, camping equipment, sporting goods, etc. And household tools.
  • I second the camping supplies!

  • We registered at Target and only had one issue because my MIL doesn't really understand how registries work. Our Target registry (second to our BBB) had more household chore type things on it (iron and board, vac, hampers) and our BBB had our china, wine glasses, kitchen things (towels, pots, pans). It worked out really well that way.
