Opinion Please... chicken or tri-tip

So... I just learned on another board that tri-tip is regional so I'm not sure they're going to help too much... What do you prefer, chicken or tri-tip?  I'm trying to decide for our catering and just can't decide... both are SO GOOD through the company but we can't do both due to budget constraints.  Any opinions are appreciated!

I have never heard tha tri-tip is regional.  What does that even mean?  What board was that? My vote would be tri-tip, but I do know a lot of people who prefer chicken over red meat.

I would also say chicken to please the most people.

When I said tri-tip is regional, it means that not everyone in the US knows what it is.  It's a local thing... special to us Californians.  :o

I am not a Californian and have no clue what tri-tip is beyond it being cow meat, so maybe it is regional.  FI loves it.  We're having both chicken and tri-tip at our reception.

seriously?  I had no idea...I just figured it's part of a cow and cows are all over the country...weird.  Is that common knowledge?

I think we got something like 68 for beef and around 40 for chicken.

If you've tasted both and think they are both good, I'd say that chicken will probably be more universal.  I LOVE tri tip though...and if you hadn't had the chicken, I would worry it might be dry. I didn't know tri tip was regional to us californians either.  Must be like sayin' hella. lol

Seriously, I lived in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska... My husband works for a beef company, and it is only sold in California. You cannot even buy it other places.

So what is it called in other states?  It's not like cows in other states don't have that muscle group!  =P  I'm really curious now!

wikipedia says it's made into ground beef or steaks.  The other states need to get on it!  Tri-tip is so good!  They're missing out!

LOL to this entire post...thank you ladies for a good laugh, I needed it! I didn't know tri-tip was regional either, that's what made it so funny! We opted for chicken and salmon because I know some people that are coming to our wedding don't eat red meat...And with our venue, two entrees go on the same plate and they call it a duet plate. I could just picture one of my non red meat eaters being disgusted or getting sick with a big hunk of it sitting on their plate, so we opted against it. But personally, I love red meat and would choose it over chicken for myself.

Most people credit Santa Maria as the start of Tri-tip. It spread through the central coast and central valley pretty quickly.
