Any Teachers Dreadin Going Back?

I teach 8th grade, and normally, I'm excited returning to work, but now that I got engaged over the summer, I very much enjoyed being a stay at home wedding planner than a teacher.... oh well! This week I have to go in and decorate my classroom. It's utterly pathetic that I want to redesign it by incorporating chiavari chairs, centerpieces on my desk, and monograms all over the place! Gotta let my students know that hey will be calling me a different name come January! One week left...

    I WISH I was going to school when school starts.... lol. I'm an "unemployed" teacher, haha! But I can totally sympathize with you :)

    I will miss the wedding planning. I don't want to write lessons plans! Or get back in test mode. :/

    COMPLETELY not in the mood.  :(  Don't get me wrong, I want to see my coworkers, catch up, see the kids and how they've grown, but then I want another few months off.  Not going to happen but a girl can dream . . .

    LilBit - words of wisdom: Relax and try to be organized from the start because there will be a lot going on.  Try to take it one step at a time so you can do your best and not feel overwhelmed.  I think it comes down to time management.  Hopefully, you'll have a good mentor teacher and that will make it a lot easier.  Good luck and try to have fun!!

    LOL, I'd love to see the students' faces when they see their classroom looks like a wedding reception!

    lilbit: Be organized from the beginning! Get to know the students and use all of the methods that they teach you in your classes. Don't make the mistake of listening to more experienced teachers when they tell you that there is not time to incorporate "fun" ways of learning! I don't like when some teachers tell me, "You're such a new teacher". It's our time to experience with the methods we've learned... so see what works best for you and your classroom!! Have FUN! :)

    I am sooo looking forward to going back to school! I get to do the yearbook and newspaper this year. It is such a new experience! Plus I am going to teach highschool for the first time this year.

    Yay for all my teacher friends!!! Lilbit- another piece of advice, drink tons of water. My first week teaching, I found myself running to the water fountain after each period. Huge water bottle at your desk! (And a few granola bars!) If you need any other advice, let me know! I'll be happy to help! What grade? Yes, Jennius a wedding reception classroom themeis exactly what I'm going for! Forget pencils and paper. Throughout the year, I know I'm gonna wonder,,,, hmmm, can I have them DIY my invites or my card box, or anything! The girl students are always so awesome at helping me decorate anything in my room!

    Mrs. JKForever- girl, that is so great that you are so excited about newspaper and yearbook.... that is a lot of work! Will you have help?

    ccrews- I think so, the yearbook is actually a communication class that i will be teaching, so I think the students will actually do the work. The newspaper is something new this year, all of the highschools will have to make one because it will go into our local newspaper so that the community will have a copy as well.

    I am actually looking forward to it. I've started sleeping until noon and up all night. My eating is totally off- in a bad way and I've been in a bright pink cast for a month so NO exercise!! I actually ruptured a tendon while working out.  Ugh! I have to keep this damn thing on until the 25th. I'm sure my students (second grade) will love it. Advice for new teachers- Don't take and parent bulls---t! I hate when you're a new teacher and parents think they can tell you how to do your job! Enjoy your students and ignore their parents (the annoying ones anyway). Make your classroom feel like your own too. I go way overboard with decorating but hell- it's my room!

    GOTER, I go crazy decorating my room, too, and I have 8th graders!!! It's soooo much fun! And no matter how much of a kick-ass teacher you are, jealous parents will always get on your nerves. Tell them to "F*** off in your head. It always makes me feel better in realizing they are just miserable people with no sex lives. This is obviously apparent in the K-8 sector!

    hahaha! No sex lives! That is hysterical! I had a parent literally ask me if I was planning on getting pregnant this school year!!!!!! HELLO! Are you kidding me? She was concered that her daughter would have a "sub". I teach at a private school by the way.... I felt like telling her I would gladly put my ovulation chart in her daughters homework folder. The nerve!

    OMG- I teach at a private school, too! They are such idiots, some of them. They probably won't like that I'm getting married right smack in the middle of the school year (January 30th with a 2 week honeymoon), but frankly, I don't give a sh**! The majority of the parents are great, but it's the 2-3 losers who make me a dimented woman.

    Aw thanks for all the advice ladies! I have orientation on Wednesday and I get to meet my clinical educator and I start on monday for planning week! I have 4th grage gifted! I'm very excited!Oh and, her name is Mrs. Collins and my future last name is going to be Collins! It's meant to be!

    LMAO at the ovulation chart!!!!!MrsJK - Yearbook and newspaper - WOW!!!  I like the idea of it being a communications class though because the kids will do the work (like you said) and you'll supervise.  They're all so good with computers, etc. that you'll be learning a lot too.  Enjoy the new experience!I also teach in a private school.  I teach Middle School Literature and I'm the Department Head for our middle school so I'm in charge of a lot of their extracurricular stuff.  It's totally draining but I love it.And BTW, good advice about the water bottle!!

    OyePooh (cute name!) I also teach middle school lit! I love, love, love it! I want to do so many digital projects this year! I also have to read the book I assigned them to read over the summer. I got engaged over the summer and have screwed over school since he proposed! Eek!

    Another piece of advice- Buy lots of kleenex, hand sanitizer, lysol and mix a bleach solution. Parents send there kids to school sick all the time. Also buy extra school supplies- crayons, paper, pencils, folders..... Also remember parents can easily be allies as well as enemies. Try to get them over to your side quickly because they can be of great help with extra school supplies, parties and field trips.

    OyePooh has been my screen name forever!!  LOLAnd I can totally understand about screwing over school after getting engaged - been there, done that.  :)  I also teach 6th and 7th.  We are on block schedule but I have 2 6th, 2 7th, and 2 8th grade classes.  I now use the same books so I don't have to keep reinventing the wheel every year.

    I know i'm jumping in kind of late, but I am actually excited about starting the year.  I'm hoping it makes the next 200 days before the weddinng go by a bit faster!   I teach K so it's a bit of a different ball game.  We leave them ready for first grade and so independant and then we start over being followed around the room like a mother duck.

    wow alpine, teaching K must take a lot of patience. i taught 6th grade last year and this year i'll have 7th grade. it's going to be a challenging and interesting change =)i am definitely looking forward to going back next week because it will make the next 4 months fly by faster!!
