faux flowers

I know this sounds crazy but almost all of my friends and siblings are married now. The one piece of advice every bride has given me thus far: DON'T USE REAL FLOWERS. (for boquets, bouts, etc.) I plan on using the real deal for decor and centerpieces, but I figured I could assemble fake flowers sooner. Anyone know of a website or cheap store for realistic fake flowers? worthy of being used in a wedding, of course!

I got all of my wedding flowers from a silk floral store off of Harry Hines.  There are quite a few stores down there that have great silk flowers for at a good price.  And I think silk flowers was really one of the best budget decisions that we made.

I'm very surprised that you keep hearing to not use real flowers. I heard the opposite.

Yes, i've heard horror stories to the extreme. Boquets falling apart like crazy. I just don't wanna spend so much money on buying real flowers if they are going to fall apart while walking down the aisle :(

I guess your bouquet would fall apart if your florist was totally incompetent. My bouquet was beyond awesome, as well as the others arrangements. To each their own.

Check out Hobby Lobby. They seriously have excellent quality and the coupons and sales will allow you to save $$. My parents paid for the majority of our wedding and that was the one area they would not budge. Same with my fiance. They didn't see the need for real flowers, so we did silk. I was bummed. I thought I would regret it once seeing pictures, but I don't. I also have fabulous decor for our home. My mom ended up doing all our flower assembling, but I met with the girl who owns Savvy Silk and she was very helpful, especially if you're not the DIY type.

Ditto Hobby Lobby and 50% off sales. They can get pricey though

I've heard (depending on what you do) that getting fake flowers isn't much cheaper than getting real ones.

I think using faux flowers is a personal choice.  I really like flowers (even if they are out of the $3 bin at Albertsons's) so it was really important to me to have real flowers.  I didn't even consider faux for my bouquet, etc.  The only ones that weren't real were the flowers in my pew bows.  To me a lot of the ones at HL and similar places look fake and a lot of the girls on here said that the better looking ones can be expensive.  If you're looking to save money on flowers, go the DIY rout.  Nae (and I think Almoyo) did theirs DIY and they turned out beautifully.

If you've got the patience for it, DIYing real flowers would probably even be considerably less expensive than buying silk flowers. My real flowers definitely didn't fall apart.

I plan on doing silks for my bridesmaid bouquets only. Mine will be real, and the bouts (if we do them) will be real as well. I only chose to do the BM's because last weekend I was at Michaels.. all their silks were 70% off. They had the EXACT color pink roses that I wanted, and I got enough to make 5 boquets and all for $30.00! Oh and I got some to make my "toss" boquet but other than that.. I'm going to use real for everything else.

I used silk, and spent less than $200 on them. I got them at Hobby Lobby and thought they looked beautiful. I did have a friend who is a professional florist assemble them for me, so that probably helped. I also went with small bridesmaids bouquets. We did buy fresh baby's breath 2 days before, and I think that helped everything look fresh.

I think it is your wedding so do what is best for you. Flowers are not that important to me so my budget was really low. Also FI is allergic to flowers, as is his sister who will be our officiant. FI and I went to HL on Saturday and played around with an alter arrangement. The total price for 2 would have been $106 with tax. I stopped in Kroger on Sunday and peaked at the flower fridge. A large vase of flowers that would have been nice for our alter arrangements was $125 for just one. We will be going with fake flowers for the bridesmaids boquets, alter arrangements, guest book table, and bouts (esty). I will purchase my bouquet from a florist. Hibiscus Florals (online) has some great selections. The cost are a little expensive. Good luck with your decision.
