XP: Getting a friend to do the ceremony.

I have also posted this on the Alberta board but maybe you fine ladys have some ideas as well. Since we are having a very small wedding we would like to get a friend to perform it. I was wondering where in the city I would go to ask about that. A registry place, city hall, a church? I know that he can do it online but he was hoping to be able to get a temporary license from the city. We live in Red Deer. Does anyone have any ideas? TIA

I googled "alberta marriage officiant" and eventually found this:http://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/1153.cfmIt looks like it's not as easy to do this in Canada as it is in the US. I have no idea if the online ordination is even valid in Canada...

Well, you've had better luck then I did finding anything. It doesn't sound good. We're going to call our registry office tomorrow and see if there's anything we can do.

this was our wish as well (to have a friend marry us).  IT.WAS.HARD.TO.DO!i had just about given up.  then about a week later i was talking with a friend and venting at how such a simple thing was so hard to accomplish.  she said she had a friend who got licenced to do another friends wedding (a surprize for their guests at their annual halloween party) and hooked us up.our guy was licenced through all season weddings here in ontario, and i don't know how it is different in other provinces - all i know is what he did to get licenced you can't do anymore.  he keeps up his registry so he can do weddings of family and friendswe ended up having to do the official stuff before the ceremony because the words he had to speak were not matching the flow of what we'd written for our friend to say!  that didn't matter to us because what was said in front of our friends and families is what we consider our ceremony anyways, not some stranger asking us if we wanted to marry each other!sorry!  i realize i was not really any help to your situation!!   i would talk to the people where you'd get your marriage licence about the rules in your province.good luck though!  it really does make the ceremony really special.
