XP: Lavender instead of rose petals

Posted this on Ceremony board, but no responses.I'm thinking of using dried lavender instead of rose petals on the aisle (FI really loves lavender). He thinks we will need tons more lavender than if we were to use rose petals to cover the aisle. He suggested dried lavender heads to get more coverage.Has anybody done this or seen this? Are there any pros and cons I should be aware of?TIA.

cons: the heads can be a slipping hazard some people are severly allergic to lavender. (i can handle most flowers but lavender makes my throat close up. FI is this way as well)

I think it would look really pretty, but it would kill people with allergies. The smell might be kind of overwhelming, too, if you use too much.

seems like a cute idea in theory...but think of the odor that massive amount of lavender will put out. a little is nice, but you dont want your guests to be overwhelmed by the smell. also, dried ones will get walked on and crunched up and good luck getting that out of carpet...

you could use a dried flower mix in your colors. I was just looking at those on save-on-crafts. They're really pretty and some do include a small amount of lavender which wouldn't be overpowering.

Do people really throw flowers? I always think that they would get all caught in your dress and look weird.

Is your ceremony going to be indoors or out? If it is outdoors, you may be able to get away with the smell/ allergy problem. PP who said she has an allergy (anna?) might be able to answer that problem better. If lavender doesn't bother you, you could always carry a lavender bouquet.

that's a great idea, anna. thanks for that! i was just about to place an order for save-on-crafts, too.sucrets, i was considering the lavender on the aisle, not thrown at me. i don't like things being thrown at me, although i have a few mischievous little boy cousins who would love an excuse to start hurling flowers at each other.

No, I meant scattered down the aisle, not thrown on you. I just can't work it out in my head because the dress touches the floor and I think they would all get caught and pulled as you walk.

If you have them dried, the allergen factor drops considerably and should be manageable for even people like me. Larkspur flowers are pretty too.

gotcha, sucrets. I've never been married before and didn't even give it a second thought about stuff getting caught up in the dress. I guess logistically, it would.The ceremony is outdoors and the ground is made of concrete.

One other thing to consider, many venues won't allow throwing for the cleanup factor afterwards. Many churches don't (unless they are the silk petals); some - if not all of - the chapels in Vegas don't (this is where I'm getting married - this is probably a time issue too). I don't know about outdoor venues - it may not be an issue there, except that you're on a concrete walkway.If you're set on the lavender, what about a silk version? Would simplify cleanup, too. Could be an interesting twist!I did use silk rose petals at my first marriage; the church had a runner. It was the only thing they allowed - nothing outdoors, either.
