Best Place for Alterations

I just picked up my wedding dress from David's Bridal. I've heard horror stories about DB but I loved the service I got there. I found my dress, my bridesmaids dresses and my mother's dress all on the same day. Now, I need to figure out where I am going to get the dresses altered. My dress will be more expensive to hem because it's treamed in lace and beading. I've heard DB can be overpriced and that seems to be the general opinion on the boards. If I don't go to David's, where is a good place to go for alterations? And since I am not doing the alterations at DB, will I have to go somewhere else to have it steamed and pressed? How much does that run? I'm quite confused. :)

I have used Francisca Alteration Shop in downtown New Cumberland for my dresses in HS.  She does great work and very reasonable.  774-7010 216 Bridge St, New CumberlandUsually, whoever does your alterations will steam and press your dress after they are done, it shouldn't cost extra.

I've never personally heard any complaints about DB Harrisburg (and I should know, I work there). You should definitely go where you feel comfortable, but many local DB knotties have gotten alterations there with no problems. Anywhere you go is going to have some kind of reputation from some unhappy bride. If you don't get alterations there they can still steam your dress if you bring it in a week before the wedding. This is a free service that they offer all of their brides. Good luck. I hope you can work everything out!

Where are you located?  I used Gail Mendenhall from Country Threads by Gail.  She is located in Manheim (north of Lancaster).  She did a great job, is reasonably priced and is awesome to work with!  All my BM's used her as well.

I used Linda Poff of Dover and loved her.  She did my dress, two BMs dresses, both mothers dresses, my grandmother's dress, and my BM dress for my SIL's wedding.  She is very reasonable and does good work.  Half the price of what my bridal shop wanted!  She was just featured in the local newspaper.  Google Linda Poff Bridal Services to find her website.
