Vegasgroom - GN question

Hello Vegasgroom, how was your recent trip to the Golden Nugget? What was the vibe of the hotel? Did it feel old school Vegas or more run down and old? Anything else you could share? I am thinking of maybe staying there - I think we would like the atmosphere downtown, but some people say it's just dirty and a bit scary on the streets at night? We will be a group of late twenty early thirty y.o. all ready to party, but I think it might be nice to have a base that doesn't break the bank since everybody will be flying in all the way from Australia...Thank you!

Here's my blog on my trip:

    http://www.vegasgroom.com/vgblog/2012/06/vegas-yes-again-june-2012/

I never felt scared at all.  I would not stay anywhere other than the Golden Nugget though, and for that matter, the Rush Tower.  My inlaws stayed in the 'gold tower' and while nice, it had wall A/C units that looked like they were from the 70's, so I was not impressed, but they did have mini-fridges.  The rush tower is brand new and all very nice.

So my one complaint is that fremont definitely dies late night; after midnight it's dead.  With that in mind, there is a club at Golden Nugget called Gold Diggers, but if you don't want to go there, you're going to have to transport a bunch of people.  I got the feeling that if you had enough people and rolled up to Gold Diggers, they'd pretty much do whatever you want, so don't let Fremont discourage you.  If you have a decent crew, you can pretty much own Gold Diggers; roll up, say I've got X number of people who could party here if you guys take care of us, or we'll go to the strip, you choose.  I'm sure they'd go your way, then once you're in, tell them what you want to hear.

I'm fairly confident we'll be staying at GN again on our next trip; we really enjoyed the gambling atmosphere that much and the hotel really treated us well; I almost felt happy losing money there, as opposed to the strip resorts where it's always a struggle to feel like you're walking away with something.

  • Great thank you so much for that! I was looking on Vegasgroom.com, but not on the blog - hence why I couldn't find it! You are seriously a legend! I will look into Gold Diggers, that could be a cool option. We will definitely be able to bring the party with us ;-)

  • Do you have any info about the wedding services at the GN? We are planning on having our wedding there in Sept '13. Also how is the buffet there? We were wanting to have some type of group dinner after the ceremony. Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated!

Unfortunately I didn't investigate either.  I'll be honest though, I heard their buffet was not one to write home about, so your mileage may vary.  I actually want to try it just to test that information out because of how excellent everything else there was; seems odd that everything would be great and then the buffet not so much.

I think I'll probably be back there in August; if so, I'll check out the wedding stuff and the buffet.

  • Hey talybama, they have their basic packages on their website and Silke the WC has emailed me their more expensive packages (and pricing for the website ones) as well. I just sent off a request for different reception options. If you are interested I can send you the info once I get it. Just pm me your email and I send it to you.

I have gotten all the prices from them already. Thank you anyway. My FI wants to have a reasonably priced group dinner after the wedding, but setting up a catered dinner or private buffet just seems to be out of our price range. So I have been trying to find a good buffet or something for a good proce since a lot of our guests cant afford $50 a plate (and neither can we thb). Has anyone priced the Double Decker tours? Are they horribly expencive? We are going to have around 30 people.

  • Hello again, my fiance wants exactly the same :-) Nice place, nice food and cheap please. Double Decker was $135 ph earlier in the year, but there was rumors of them upping their prices. We are having 30ppl as well, so I am looking at similiar stuff I am imagining. Have you thought about doing an insuite reception? Smokeybailey had no problems with it at the Golden Nugget and she paid $309 a night - that is a steal, isn't it? She said 30ppl could fit, but not everyone could sit down at all times - that sounds okay to me...but we are having lots of younger people, depends on your guests I guess. DD is definitelyan option for us too...you can bring any drinks as long as it's not in glass bottles. The other thing you might want to look at - getting married earlier and having a lunch or just some afternoon drinks? There are sooo many happy hours in Vegas, I think with a group our size you could definitely walk into some of the places and maybe just order some snacks and get a few celebratory drinks? Ohhhh, I can't wait to have something booked, this looking at every option in the world is making me insane!
